So the one downed outside Houston was birds?

That was a 767 older passenger plane converted to a freighter.

No information yet as to if it was one of the "newly" converted ones or one Atlas Air had in service for some time. (Atlas Air is currently taking delivery of newly converted 767's at the rate of about 1 every 2 months or so)

If it was a newly converted 767 there may have been a problem during the conversion that wasn't discovered before it was put into service. That happened to one of their planes (related company but part of the same group), a DC-8 freighter conversion, that crashed during it's final test flight before going into freight service about 20 years ago.

LOTS of systems, including control systems, get yanked out and have to be reinstalled when they convert a large plane like that from passenger service to freighter service. LOTS of places to screw up as they reassemble the plane.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11059566

Interesting information, thank you. Who does these conversions? The original builder or contractors?
 Quoting: RepublicofTexas

As of a year ago there were two companies in the world that did them, one in Asia and the other one may have been in Israel or Ireland, I do not recall specifically but it was Europe somewhere,

I did note just recently that apparently another company is now going doing them - in the US this time. I didn't look into it but it may very well be a subsidiary of Atlas Air since they NEED a lot of planes converted since they started contract flying for Amazon. 10 more 767 freighters over the next 18-24 months or so and possibly another 50 over the next 4 to 5 years after that, depending upon what Amazon decides to do with it's "air fleet" (potentially doubling it from it's current projected 50 767's in 2020 to 100 in 2025) AND how it decides to split up it's freight contract (currently two different companies are providing the 767's).

In addition to Amazon I have read that UPS and FED EX are also acquiring used 767's for freight operation (which also need to be converted), in fact Fed Ex is reported to be in discussions with Boeing about buying NEW 767 freighters directly from them since the plane is THE PERFECT plane for most medium distance air freight operations, and can also do some longer range routes.

I will add that the 767 freighters that are being used for Amazon service are flying about twice as many flights per week as the similar planes used by UPS and Fed Ex. (fleet average of 19 flights per plane per week vs. about 10 flights per plane per week - for the 767's used by UPS and Fed Ex). In effect Amazon has a useful fleet size that is about double that of what the actual aircraft numbers would indicate compared to UPS or Fed Ex because of it's planes higher utilization rates.

Clueless until the NTSB report comes out as to if that higher utilization rate is causing any special maintenance issues with these older aircraft or had any bearing on this accident.

Should be a big red button you can hit to manually override any AI or autopilot commands concerning the FLCS.

AI & autopilot is only as smart as those who programmed it but its dependant sensors that can malfunction.

Also if the plane is just nosediving into the ground overriding even pilot commands than it could just be a simple programming error.

It's an obvious programming error.

If the nose is too high it crashes then plane into the ground without taking into account any other factors?

Like maybe leveling out at a certain altitude or checking altitude? Just knows pitch is too high & crashes it into the ground.. ya ok.

Re: CHINA SUSPENDS ALL BOEING 737's in service.
flight data does not point to the plane stalling, it was going fast.

And we can see the rate of climb/decent. nothing significant.

It would therefore be impossible for the nose to be very high to invoke the anti-stall system. As this would result in a much higher rate of climb which we do not observe prior to nosediving into valhalla.

Something else happened.

Speed was good, altitude was OK, but the pilots managed to lose total control of the plane in moments.

Pilots have multiple ways to keep a plane in the air with malfunktions. What ever happened was catastrophic and unrecoverable.

The pilot had 8000hrs, he would have many ways to regain control under normal conditions or at the very least initiate a controlled crash at minimal speed.

This is beyond scary.

Boeing has a very big problem.

I enjoy that it's divisive to setting this as like against Boeing but they are just being a default to the trial and error scheme we have for us as like what it means to be on Mars. I'm almost certain we're already underground up there and here on the planet earth we are already drinking the water they dug up out there. I believe we can find it in Pepsi and some Aquafina by now. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are female and have a way to actually pee out the water without using your hands or your back muscles as they spasms you may encounter could leave you with cancer for the rest of your life if you don't consolidate the chemicals in the batter with the chemicals in your spine. As a way to say that we do not manufacture illegal things, you just happened to die now. Like you're getting it. Space is a frontier and white people believe they are good at things. This is it for a lot of big names. We are going to see the end of one of those dystpian fiction things come to life and it really sucks we have to try and enjoy it. These are tragedies.

Also don't believe it has anything to do with the fact that Jinping contracted HIV by deciding he would "rape" a certain ying cheung into submission and settle himself an account with some imaginary anomaly. Understandably she was said to be the second one or his female but naturally she only understands commands and her command was to obey. She did. And guess what? She had HIV. Guess what that means everybody and guess what it means for the Union and the officials in it that didn't take the time to ascertain that their info was reliable and didn't settle accounts for them on the fronts that china made for itself when it decided to try and rape the land or the mother code for some sense of propriety in a time and place they made for themselves but couldn't preoccupy themselves with enough wit not to let it get to the same extreme degrees it used when they take it upon themselves to act on moral junctures. Like how do you get HIV from a peasant because you want to cuck a broke ass college student that has like practically 0 education to you guys and then still settle up on the fact that you haven't even dealt with her properly enough to consider yourself safe in the situation. HIV cannot be hosted because its unethical. But raping a student and then having her and her dad tased, drugged, raped and sniped over many quarters of designated quarantines zones isn't exactly up there with consolidated rivalries and like thinking things through. Like you mulch babies and make them pills but there she is with you as her antidote when it should be the other way around and you know it. It doesn't make you weak, it makes the privileges you resounded to passionate ones and makes her father seem like he mings well but doesn't actually on a sand.

Re: CHINA SUSPENDS ALL BOEING 737's in service.

There should never be an instant where AI or autopilot takes command over a human pilot unless incapacitated.

It's an obvious programming error.

If the nose is too high it crashes then plane into the ground without taking into account any other factors?

Like maybe leveling out at a certain altitude or checking altitude? Just knows pitch is too high & crashes it into the ground.. ya ok.

Fuck I could only imagine what was going thru those pilots minds & the chaos in the cabin

Doing everything they could to save everyone behind them, but a software issue killed'em all..

you have to decide
if you believe in lies
of if you have
the fortitude
to discover the truth.

almost all of you
have chosen lies
up until now.

Re: CHINA SUSPENDS ALL BOEING 737's in service.
