Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44753432 That was bullshit. The Concorde that crashed ran over a piece of metal on the runway, it bounced up into an engine, causing the fire and crash. That's like discontinuing the manufacture of Chevrolets because one had a flat tire. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44753432 WRONG ... One of the Concords lost a good chunk of it's Tail Feathers while traveling supersonic ... it was only luck that it didn't set up a harmonic flutter in the tale and lose it all and crash. Metal Fatigue was apparently the issue ... the planes although not heavily used were hitting the end of their safe service life. Add that almost crash to the firey one in Paris ... and the plane basically did not meet the level of safety the public expects, and because of the metal fatigue issue more would have crashed if they had remained in service. Good first generation Supersonic transport plane, but totally uneconomic to operate from a market perspective. Only generous subsidies from the British and French Governments kept them in the air as long as they were. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77335283 United States 03/10/2019 10:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Boeing worked with a French company to develop the 737 And just two weeks ago, another French company called Airbus stopped making the A380 The A380 is generally unprofitable unless it's run on long runs like Etihad does. Very few were sold, and it can't really do much that the old 747's can't do, and they're being converted to freighters. The 737 MAX appears to have a software problem that overrides virtually anything that a pilot can do when low and slow. It's dangerous unless the pilot in command CAN be in command. Airbus had its share of software problems too. |

That is their trackrecord now and people know they are dropping like flies out of the skies. I can only praise the decision of the China to prevent further loss of life. Boeing is evil. They will always point to pilot error, even in the most rediculous circumstances. This event will have a huge negative impact on Boeing, strongly suggest you check your stock portfolio and dump them while you still can. When governments start ordering planes to be grounded, that is game over. each day the losses will mount. Lawsuits will already be in the works. This is a punch to the nose for Boeing, and the price will be very very high. —— There still is time if you RUN NOW!! — |

If you look at the passenger list for this latest crash ... it is NOT a group of middle class and lower middle class passengers who made up the passenger list of those on board the Lions Air plane. This passenger list for the passengers in this crash was composed of HIGH EARNING and HIGH POSITION types of people, exactly the type who individually will have VERY HIGH DAMAGES amounts calculated for them. The cost to Boeing (which they have "some" insurance for) for the damages they are going to be liable for in this latest crash would easily run into the $500,000,000 to $1 billion dollar range ... OR MORE!! This could well be the most expensive crash EVER for an aircraft manufacturer ... by a factor or several fold greater than ever paid out before. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11059566 United States 03/11/2019 12:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So the one downed outside Houston was birds? That was a 767 older passenger plane converted to a freighter. No information yet as to if it was one of the "newly" converted ones or one Atlas Air had in service for some time. (Atlas Air is currently taking delivery of newly converted 767's at the rate of about 1 every 2 months or so) If it was a newly converted 767 there may have been a problem during the conversion that wasn't discovered before it was put into service. That happened to one of their planes (related company but part of the same group), a DC-8 freighter conversion, that crashed during it's final test flight before going into freight service about 20 years ago. LOTS of systems, including control systems, get yanked out and have to be reinstalled when they convert a large plane like that from passenger service to freighter service. LOTS of places to screw up as they reassemble the plane. |
