Inaccurate rate data is being repeated everywhere. Statewide, the current MMR exemption rate is only 2.9% -- and that includes ALL exemption types: personal, religious, and medical.

In Clark County, where the current measles cases are located, the exemption rate to MMR is 5.3%.

The cases have been entirely within a tight-knit Slavic/religious community that does not fear measles. Please encourage your Senator to contact Clark County Public Health and request up-to-date information about where cases were acquired and how many cases are now fully recovered.
Measles is not a dangerous infection to healthy individuals with adequate Vitamin A levels.
Most of the adults in the outbreak community have lifetime immunity because they had measles as children, and they are passing this protection on to their healthy children by allowing them to safely experience wild infection.

The Brady's had measles: no big deal.

And what the OP does here is divert you away from the context in which this sitcom is situated, an era where there was no measles hysteria. In fact where was all the bug boogeyman hysteria prior to about year 2000, around about the same time as when that "retracted" paper was brought out by Andrew Wakefield.

You're not really a big picture guy, are you OP?

Since you like looking at what the numbers mean so much, let us dwell on these numbers:

71 confirmed cases

Hospitalization: one case (none currently)

Serious complications? ZERO

Deaths? ZERO
 Quoting: Elegant Walnut

You're not really a big picture gal, are you Elegant Walnut?
"Hospitalization: one case (none currently)"
Just lucky so far.
.
"Serious complications? ZERO"
You know this how? Just because someone isn't hospitalized doesn't mean they don't have serious complications.
They could have opportunistic bacterial pneumonia and have been given a huge penicillin shot and sent home with a penicillin script. You don't know.
Also, WA State and Clark Co. have spent well over $1 million fighting this outbreak and that includes medical treatments for those exposed and diseased.
Those exposed are given the MMR if <72hrs has elapsed since exposure and those later are given immunoglobulin. These may not stop infection but they reduce the severity of the infection.
.
"Deaths? ZERO"
Yeah? So what?
If the mortality of measles is 0.001 how many cases does it take for there to be a 95% chance of a death, Elegant Walnut?
Can you answer that?
No?
You see? You have to understand risk before you can dismiss it... like you just did with an ignorant wave of your hand.
.
Then there is the future risk of SSPE which is the measles answer to chickenpox's Shingles disease except it is virtually 100% fatal.
.
Then there is the current history of measles:
USA outbreak 1989-1991:
[link to www.cdc.gov (secure)]
"Public-Sector Vaccination Efforts in Response to the Resurgence of Measles Among Preschool-Aged Children -- United States, 1989-1991"
"During 1989 - 1991, state health departments reported a provisional total of 55,467 measles cases that resulted in a minimum of 11,251 known hospitalizations, 44,127 hospital days, and 166 suspected measles-related deaths."
The USA.
1990s - Not ancient history - When Nirvana was big.
55000+ cases.
166 deaths = 3 death per 1000.
11000+ hospitalized = 20%
Such a minor disease for a top-line 1st world country to handle. No problems. </sarc>
.
Or the current outbreaks in Europe 2018:
[link to www.bmj.com (secure)]
"More than 80,000 people in 47 of 53 European countries contracted measles in 2018, with 72 deaths, the World Health Organization has said.¹ In countries reporting hospitalisation data 61% of patients with measles were admitted to hospital.²"
.
80,000 cases with 72 deaths.
Europe.
2018.
Hardly 3rd world and hardly ancient history.
.
Tell me again how measles is a benign disease, Ms.Big Picture.
BTW - I am interested in your risk estimate of how many cases to get 95% probability for a death.

Nice unattributed quote of the anti-vaccine organization - Informed Choice Washington (ICW)
[link to www.informedchoicewa.org (secure)]
.
[link to www.clark.wa.gov (secure)]
"What are the immunization rates for children in Clark County?

As of Dec. 31, 2018, 78 percent of Clark County 6- to 18-year-olds have received two doses of MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine, which is the age-appropriate number of doses. As of Dec. 31, 2018, 81 percent of 1- to 5-year-olds have received one dose of MMR, which is the age-appropriate number of doses.

Source: Washington State Immunization Information System"

.

Just because 5.3% of Clark Co. students have an exemption for the MMR vaccine does not change the fact that "As of Dec. 31, 2018, 81 percent of 1- to 5-year-olds have received one dose of MMR,..." or "As of Dec. 31, 2018, 78 percent of Clark County 6- to 18-year-olds have received two doses of MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine,.."
The fact remains that ~20% of the kids are not vaccinated against measles and this is the outcome.
.
Why isn't ICW and all the other anti-vaccine orgs calling press conferences to say:
"Hurray!!!
These outbreaks are just what we have been promoting and working hard for all these years as a desireable outcome!!!!!
Aren't we smart and wonderful people?
Just wait til you get a load of teh wunnerful polio we have in line for you next!"?
Instead they seem to be spewing disinfo, denying, and running away from their handiwork as fast as they can.

Well, yesterday (Wednesday) there was 1 new case added to the Clark Co. tally. It was, of course, from an unvaccinated victim 1 to 10 years old:
Please read the whole short article linked below as it contains useful details about the source of the virus, some vaccine facts, some measles virus facts, preventive measures they are taking, exposure locations, etc.
.
[link to www.clark.wa.gov (secure)]
"Measles investigation
Current investigation - updated 3/13/2019

Clark County Public Health is continuing its measles outbreak investigation. Since Jan. 1, Public Health has identified 72 confirmed cases and is not currently investigating any suspect cases. There are no new locations where people may have been exposed to measles.

Here are the details of the confirmed cases:
Age
- 1 to 10 years: 53 cases
- 11 to 18 years: 15 cases
- 19 to 29 years: one case
- 30 to 39 years: three cases

Immunization status
- Unimmunized: 63 cases
- Unverified: seven cases
- 1 MMR vaccine: two cases
- Hospitalization: one case (none currently)
- Date of last confirmed case: Tuesday, March 13
[Mislabeled "Tuesday" - shb "Wednesday"]"
.
That makes 65 cases with known vaccination status.
- Unvaccinated = 63/65 = 96.9%
- Vaccinated (1 dose+) = 2/65 = 3.1%
.
Good job, anti-vaccine mommies and daddies!!!
Well done, tovarishchi!

The "SECTION 13" in the above vaccine documentation, though not stated as "SECTION 13" is still represented by a statement that says something like this:

"Vaccine X has not been evaluated for carcinogenic or mutagenic potential, or potential to impair fertility."

With regards to the MMR-II vaccine which was introduced in 1978, 30+ years ago, the vaccine statement still says the following:

"See also PRECAUTIONS, General. Carcinogenesis, Mutagenesis, Impairment of Fertility M-M-RII has not been evaluated for carcinogenic or mutagenic potential, or potential to impair fertility"

as per [link to www.merck.com (secure)]

Have any studies been conducted to quantify the above risks in relation to MMR-II ?

What a very poorly done thread, op...

Shill on over the measles? Flashing red lights and sirens?

What a joke! Poorly done statistics as well!

No one died.
No one got seriously ill.. ('hospitalized' in this day and age means absolutely zero!)

All of this is par for the course.
A rash... mild fever, and from that you get a lifetime of immunity from measles and a strengthened immune system to boot!

Compare and contrast this with the risks involved with getting a jab... look at the ingredient list and contraindications on the data enclosed by the manufacturer of the vaccine...

Total no-brainer to avoid autism, and avoid aluminum, amongst other bad things being introduced into the body... via a very unnatural hypodermic intrusion... not the way disease would ever be introduced naturally through breathing, direct contact, or ingestion.

You totally FAIL as a shill. Not even worth two-bits.

iMPORT MORE IMMIGRANTS THAT IS SURE TO SOLVE IT
 Quoting: Jake

Well, it is not going to help if they are unvaccinated.
The problem with that argument is that most countries south of us have better vaccination rates than the USA.
And all the recent outbreaks have been caused by unvaccinated US citizens traveling to countries where measles is endemic and bringing back a little souvenir for their unvaccinated US citizen compatriots.
Our own unvaccinated citizens are the ones responsible for these measles outbreaks.
.
You will do better to not include that argument in the discussion of illegal immigration.
There are many other valid arguments against illegal immigration without ruining your credibility by citing a piece of disinfo about measles outbreaks.

Because these people exist and most people are not self-centered narcissists and care about their fellow man:
- Vaccinated but did not respond
- Babies too young to be vaccinated
- Senior citizens with waning immune systems
- Unvaccinated due to bad reaction to vaccine component
- Cancer patients lacking immune system - chemo and radiation treatments
- Those with immune diseases - AIDS
- Organ transplant recipients
- Those taking immune suppressing meds - Steroids
- Unvaccinated children whose ignorant parents are anti-vaccine
- etc., etc.

And because nobody who is sane thinks it's a good idea to have dangerous diseases circulating in the population just for the fun of it.

Wow, you're really desperate to push this shit, aren't you? I'm in my 60s and measles have never been any kind of devastating problem in this country. It's almost always a mild illness, just like most illnesses. It can have complications that are dealt with like complications of other illnesses. Vaccines really aren't necessary for this mild childhood illness that builds up the immune system.

HOWEVER, the overwhelming majority of people used to get vaccines before they went to 1st grade. I don't necessarily object to vaccines as long as they are strung out and not too many at once or in total. There are TOO MANY VACCINATIONS NOW and they're making the kids SICK.

So if kids are vaccinated before or during 1st grade, all of those groups of people don't have to worry as those are mostly adult illnesses and they would have already been vaccinated. Or they can choose to be vaccinated at any point beyond their teen years. You're talking about us giving up our medical freedom for a tiny group of people - a STRAWMAN ARGUMENT, in fact.

Please take your vaccines and shove them ALL up your ass at once.

Sigh.

"My kids will never get vaccines. Aluminum Toxicity>Measels"
.
I hate to break it to you, dimwit, but the MMR vaccine has never contained an aluminum salt adjuvant.
Never.
Additionally, it has never contained Thimerosal despite what Robert F.-as-in-Fricking-Moron Kennedy, Jr. thinks.
Never.
.
It really helps the discussion if you actually, you know, know what you're talking about and reject a vaccine for a reason that, you know, actually exists.
It is an additional plus if you can actually spell the disease... "Measels"

The only people that get vaccines are: those that are completely indoctrinated to western medicine and fail to do their own research; dumbed down zombies; brainwashed by mainstream science and public schooling; and those that only take the advice of heavily brainwashed/indoctrinated medical doctors who attended schools funded by BIG PHARMA. Vaccines only cause harm, look it up.

How's that Flat Earf thing going for ya', UseLessRepEATER?
Teh earf still a dinner plate for you?
.
OK, Ms. Flat Earther, as "Joe Imbriano", the moronic doofus who runs that idiotic blog, says:
"PLEASE READ SECTION 13 OF THESE INSERTS-"
Use his links and tell us all what "SECTION 13" in these inserts says -
BCG Vaccine
BioThrax
Boostrix
Havrix
Hiberix
Imogam Rabies-HT
Imovax Rabies
IPOL
JE-VAX
M-M-R II
Nabi-HB
PedvaxHIB
Pneumovax 23
RabAvert
Td (generic)
Typhim Vi
Varivax
Vivotif
YF-VAX

Hint - There isn't a "SECTION 13" for the above that the moron linked to.
"Joe Imbriano" of the "Fullerton Informer" blog is so stupid he didn't even check his links to see if they actually say anything.
What is he? Some 13 year old pimple-faced butterball blogging from mommy's basement?
My cat has a higher IQ than Joe Imbriano of the "Fullerton Informer".
That's some real credibility ya' gots there.
.
It seems you could use some of that "mainstream science and public schooling" that you despise so much.
.
Have fun on your Flat Earf, UseLess.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76814169

Not in the clinical phase trials.
Nothing is evaluated for things for which there is no evidence of a problem. Why would they?
Should they be evaluated for causing athlete's foot or ingrown toenail?
Vaccines and drugs are screened for these things during pre-clinical animal and microbiology investigations of which I have a little experience being employed by a lab and doing pre-clinical testing during my undergraduate university days.
...And in continuing post licensure surveillance (VAERS, VSD, PRISM, CISA, etc) there has been no signal.
A good exposition on why this is not a konspiracee or problem:

iMPORT MORE IMMIGRANTS THAT IS SURE TO SOLVE IT
 Quoting: Jake

Re: Measles Outbreak in Washington state keeps going - Vaccine effectiveness.
This is exactly what the vaccine industry wants. People who want vaccines vs. people who don't want vaccines. Instead of agreeing that vaccines could be safer or acknowledging that kids are getting an awful lot of them, you all are fighting each other - instead of calling the vaccine industry to the carpet. You have fallen right into their greedy, hugely big hands.
