Steven Still became friends with Peter Tork in New York's Greenwich Village folk scene in the early sixties.

They played in the village as a duo.

Later, Stills tried out for the Monkees but was not selected.

When the Beatles broke out, a bunch of American record producers realized there was a lot of money to be made with the Beatles new music (which was seen as marrying folk style songs to rock beats).

So...the Monkees were an idea to cash in on the craze. But so were the Byrds.

On their first album, the Birds were not a viable music group either, so they brought in session musicians to play.

That was pretty common...a lot of the early sixties Cali. Rock bands didn't play on their records at first.

This is why the Monkees were readily accepted in the California Music scene.

Leon Russell and Glen Campell were two of the top session musicians on the west coast, and they worked for Phil Spector. They were called into play on a lot of early post beatle-mania rock albums.

Mike's mom was famous for white out development. Mickey, I'm not sure of. Mike's family lived outside of Chalmette louisiana in Arabi. I was living there too. His sister went to the same school and was a royal B. They moved soon after the money came in.

It was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
