Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40169223 People can cheaply make their own Retropie devices and play tons of classis games on them for free. And a lot of those classics are more fun than current gen games. It's getting so there is a sameness in a lot of the new games. Combined with tedious gameplay a lot of them get pretty boring after a while. Better graphics does not necessarily equate to better or funner games. |
shovelbum User ID: 75430122 United States 03/13/2019 07:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My daughter games a little. I just built her a $1500 rig that is as beautiful as any pc out there. Ryzen 2600x, rx580 (gonna upgrade to a 7nm gpu soon), 16 gigs of rgb ram running at 3000. Everything overclocked a little. 5 rgb fans. Custom sleeved wiring harness (pink and white). All glass cube case. Corsair RMx psu. 500gig nvmi evo pro ssd, 2 500gig rgb ssds for games. 32 inch curved monitor with backlighting. I bought her multiple top tier games. Tomb raider. Resident evil 2. She only wants to play sims. A game that could be run on a computer from 1998. Not sure what my point is. I just wanted to blab about all the cool shit I put into a rig that nobody in my house needs. And if I have such a bad ass rig why would I ever buy a cheesy console. |

Yo uh are closer to a console than anything bro. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77336129 The rx580 isn't too hot I know. As mentioned it's an interim card while waiting on 7nm stuff. And fuck intel. I'm not giving them a damn dime. Much less will I pay $80 more for a cpu that delivers a 3% gain ONLY in single threaded performance. The other thing I do with my computers is distributed computing where AMD Ryzen is hammering intels ass into the ground. |

Reviews and Bethesda's greed ultimately made me decide against it. FPS, shitty MMO's, p2w microtransaction games, and content patches behind paywalls is killing the industry. Better in the long run that there is a game correction to free the market for good games to be made again by people that care. Except for the 2080 amd competes though, and at a better price. I like the amd story. They were facing bankruptcy, their tech was shit. 5 or 6 years ago I never considered anything from amd when I built my old rig (ivy bridge days). But amd came back from the dead. That's cool. |

I got a rx 480 right before crypto's doubled the prices of gpu's.. I have to say its not that bad of a card.. At the time Nvidia's card at the same price range of 200 bucks only had 128 bit memory path.. Thats crap for gaming.. The rx 480 has 256bit so it can handle much more imo.. So a short story.. I bought the division 1 on pc for like 18 bucks a few months ago and then my brother bought it for me on the ps4.. The ps4 hardware is absolute garbage.. That game doesn't even run properly at 1080 res.. I had to lower the sony os from 1080 to 720 res to get division 1 running correctly on ps4.. Meanwhile, the rx480 chewed that game up and spit it out like it was nothing.. The ps4 hardware made the division 1 feel and look like it was from 2009.. Im not kidding.. It ran and looked like my old nvidia gtx 580 was running bf1.. which was shit to say the least.. I am kind of shocked AMD hasn't launched more cards with HBM 2.. If Nvidia ever smartens up and does HBM gpu's, they might be worth buying again.. Their still using tech from like 8 years ago.. same as AMD.. All they seem to be doing is tweaking shit but no real breakthroughs in tech.. Every GPU today should have been HBM 2 cards by now.. ddr 5 is old as fk and severely limited in bandwidth.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77416768 United States 03/13/2019 08:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | HBM2 costs multiples more than ddr5. From what I've read amds' vega architecture forced them to use hbm because of a bandwidth chokepoint. Quoting: shovelbum They claim though they're sticking with hbm because they want it to go mainstream. Mainstream means lower prices. Yes.. Both companies should just adopt it now fully to push prices down. I still see them gouging on gpu prices anyways.. They should have hbm capacity at current prices.. But I get your point, ddr5 means more $$$ for them in the end. |

shovelbum User ID: 75430122 United States 03/13/2019 08:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm more into hardware than games. But, that's because the games suck to me...so maybe you're precisely right. Or am I just getting too old for games? My first console was an Atari 2600 and my first pc was a tandy from radio shack. |
Question EVERYTHING Traveler In The Matrix User ID: 77452333 United States 03/13/2019 08:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Probably because just a couple games are sucking up the entire market. PLUS, there is nothing new. Just rehashes of the same old stuff. Quoting: MyPillow [link to wolfstreet.com (secure)] Video games have become the largest entertainment industry worldwide by revenue: $138 billion in 2018 – beating TV ($105 billion), film box office ($41 billion), and digital music ($17 billion). But in 2019, after two decades of incessant growth, something unthinkable is lining up to happen: Sales are projected to decline, according to analysts at Pelham Smithers, cited by Bloomberg: Good chart at link A lack of big hits, expensive flops, consumer frustration, and a slowdown in China all are to blame, according to the analysis. While true in general, it does not tell the whole story: A gamer-revolt against practices, deeper trouble in China, a decline in mobile gaming, and changing spending patterns have stalled growth and are beginning to cause serious waves. With easy Fed policy, money flooded into Tech, and beneficiaries cashing out turned around and invested heavily into video games. But to their detriment: In the last year or so, many of the major game corporations have suffered extreme losses to their share prices. These are major multinationals that include the Chinese giant Tencent. For example, the chart below shows the combined market capitalizations of Activision/Blizzard, Electronic Arts (EA), Ubisoft, and Take Two Interactive. Since their peak in July 2018, their combined market cap has plunged by 40%, a drop of $55 billion. These are not all the impacted companies, just some of the biggest that are traded in the US (data via YCharts): I play Path of Exile and Witcher 3... that's it. I think the problem is multi-pronged, but it comes down to one thing... GREED. We've seen many games come out in the last year that are horrible, and the movement towards the pay to win so that the shareholders can line their pockets for products that are shit. We witnessed it with Bungee and now Blizzard... Both acquired by Activision, This years Blizzcon was an utter disaster for the company, because they insulted every Diablo fan with stating that they took their brightest minds and put them on portable games... and not a word was said about Diablo 4. Not to mention, and Diablo 3 came out in 2012.. We've also seen developers banning major streamers for things that are absurd... It seems that these people have bought into the leftest ideology and are ruining the gaming industry. This is how the strong prevail... It will be tough, but the companies that stick to making good games, and are in touch with their fan base, will be the ones that come out of this ahead. This is no different than what we are witnessing with the Democratic party... implosion.
