they could redesign it to fly with skinnier engines that would fit under the wing. but that would be less fuel efficient.

they could redesign it with engines stuck on the sides of the tail like a a-10 warthog.

the major problem is that they are gonna have to certify it as a new model. there is no way the faa is going to rubber stamp whatever boeing says again.

so basically they designed a lemon. they cant get it to fly without a real certification, no grandfathering of some old model.

so they are screwed, they may as well start designing a new model plane with longer legs so it can fly properly with the engines in a proper place
