Since the early 1990's the message that has been blasted clear and loud from Business and Academia is this.
WHITE MALES NEED NOT APPLY.
The corrupt colleges barred white males, white females all Asians, and only allowed foreigners and blacks via affirmative action to get into these universities.
What choice is left for parents, the system is set up to cheat you if you are not as I said, a foreigner or a black.
They cheat = cheat you must . THEY made the rules

It boils down to the PSAT and the national merit scholar program Followed by the SAT or ACT If you have other amazing attributes (like sport), you can get in with lower SAT/ACT scores. Not so....GPA is rated higher...and college essays.
