Without social media would the New Zealand mosque attack have happened?

This guy prepped and scouted. He live streams the attack for millions of people around the world to see.

The question has to be asked, would he have done it without the social media attention? Without social media would we still have some of these high profile crimes from around the world and our own country?
Social media has destroyed morality around the world and this is a great example. Without the ability to stream it and to get the worlds attention would he still have gone through with it.

My guess is no.
