New Zealand requires licensing and in-depth background checks for would-be gun owners, but neither gun control policy prevented Friday’s attacks in Christchurch that killed nearly 50 people.
The University of Sydney’s GunPolicy.org describes New Zealand’s gun control as “restrictive,” because owning guns in that nation is not a guaranteed right but a privilege extended by the government.

Moreover, before legally owning a gun, residents must acquire a license. The acquisition of that license involves passage of a background check that “considers criminal, mental health, medical, addiction and domestic violence records.” Third party references must also be provided to authorities during the license procurement process and interviews are conducted with the applicant’s immediate family.

Not only that, but I do believe it is very hard to get a license to have AR style semi auto rifles.

No.

A 10 year gun license only takes a background check and a gun safe.

It costs $150 for 10 years.

You can buy whatever---but guns are expensive.

An AR is $10,000

If you want a handgun, you have to sign up for a gun club

You have to agree that you won't use your gun for self defense.

There are TONNES of guns in NZ.

Every farmer has several. Every hunter has more.

No shit? $10,000 for a AR15? Fuck me. Im moving to NZ and im going into black market sales!

Is not about preventing gun violence, its about giving more control to governments so they can demonize and dehumanize those who they want locked up killed as a example to those who dare see individualism(righty) over collectivism(lefty)...a unarmed society is a unpolite society and people beg for more tyranny when their world seems unpolite to them for no reason and so totalitarian governmental order is seen as the most reasonable compared to the chaos of freedom from big brother....guncontrol1

You can buy everything he had except the big clips in NZ. They are going to restrict semi autos now, but they were available to this shooter in NZ. Here they restricted semi autos in 1998, there has not been a multi fatality public mass shooting since. Its still possible for one to happen here, but the public mass shoootings stopped from one or two a year to none, when semi autos became restricted.

The ability to own a similar firearm as the military is the most basic true freedom. It is what all other freedoms are based on. It is the power that allows you to back up other freedoms. When you lost your semiautomatic firearms you became slaves. The government can do anything they like to you. How many other freedoms have you lost since 1998? Let me guess, you have “hate speech” laws that can land you in jail now.

Being Australian he could not get a gun here. If so his attack would of been on home soil, this I think was his reason for nz attack and not the excuse he gave.

How did this guy travel the world, buy $20,000+ in guns and have a new car with no work history?

Who financed this guy?
Gen. John B Gordon and Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest were the finest citizen-soldiers birthed in America.
