Do NOT install a "Ubuntu" server it is a crap distro!

Install an "openSuSE Leap 15" or 42.3 server.

If you are asking the question...find out what "yast or yast2" are...and find out if there is an equivalent in Ubuntu...there is NOT!

The only traffic on that server will be is Email, SSH, and a samba server, there will be no GUI interface at all.

The memory footprint of OpenSuse is very large, and Centos, is something similar to Red Hat. Ubuntu uses very little memory and not a resource hog, especially the server version.

You OBVIOUSLY do NOT earn your living as a Linux Sys. Admin.....I do!

Ubuntu is NOT a real distro...it is a derivation of Debian (which is a real distro). CentOS and openSuSE are real distros.

I "maintain" CentOS, openSuSE and Ubuntu servers of many versions.

You will just about ALWAYS see security updates that go out to CentOS and openSuSE...a month or two before Ubuntu...why...because Ubuntu needs to wait until Debian pushes out a security patch...and then Ubuntu has to adopt it.

Nothing critical will be running on that server except Email, SSH logins, and Samba server, maybe FTP, that's it.

It will work for me.

OK...but, NEVER try to integrate this server with other servers. Dell OMSA...oh...so sorry no version for Ubuntu...MySSQL (not MariaDB)...CentOS...yes...openSuSE...yes...Ubuntu...so sorry!

If you ever want to use it with "other kids (distros)"...it is a pain in the ass!
