No offense, but this site SUCKED during the period without ACs. I went from a daily reader/poster to coming here once per week, tops. The posts were different. People change the way they communicate when they're trying to protect their online reputation. I've gained the most knowledge/insight/interesting discussions from this site over the years from ACs. Rarely from members who have an account. Just saying..

How about including an option for registered members that would only allow other registered members to comment in any given thread? That way, serious threads dealing with breaking news events don't get hijacked but ACs can still provide their own content on their own threads and on threads where a registered user doesn't checkmark that option.

Best of both worlds.

But that's not the point. When I registered my account, I had to provide an e-mail address. Using a false address or an exploding e-mail account would cause complications with my account. Plus I want other members with whom I may strike up friendships to be able to recognize my posts and comments easily. But mostly, I'm not a jackass, and I treat other people with respect, even if I disagree with them, so I feel no need to hind behind the AC label.

There's also the idea of allowing AC posting (again, replies only) during breaking news events, but not routinely.
