One day before BD...my friends dad took us to the first half of this concert. He was a 'high up there' dude in cellphones, one of those who changed our world really. Odd family...great sons, took me to the cabin every summer hence we saw half a concert. Ozzy's first solo.

The lyrics describe a pastoral and dream-like scene at the Grantchester Meadows in Cambridgeshire, close to where fellow band member David Gilmour lived at the time. This type of pastoral ballad was typical of Roger Waters' compositional approach in the late sixties and early seventies.

Had he of simply taken a casual hit or two, or some 14-15 ingestations like myself ... perhaps ol' Syd might have still been up there on stage with Roger and Nick and Rick (until Rick's passing) on into the 1970s, 80s, 90s and beyond ...

During the 1960s he was the sort of charismatic leader and creative-artist/songwriter of the band. Fortunately an in-the-wings replacement was quickly found in David Gilmour, and the band went on to fame unimagined after Syd became too non-functional, and essentially irresponsive/irresponsible.

His old friend and eventual replacement David Gilmour noticed as much when he dropped by the Chelsea Studios in May 1967 for the recording of the band's second single, "See Emily Play."

"Syd didn't seem to recognize me and just stared back," Gilmour recalled in Crazy Diamond. "I got to know that look pretty well and I'll go on record as saying that was when he changed. It was a shock. He was a different person."
