Tons of storage facilities are being built off of major highways and no one uses them

This is not interesting by itself, but when there are 3 or more large storage facilities, some that are even temp controlled being built at the edge of small rural towns an hour or more outside of city centers and urban communities, then something smells fishy to me. For example, there are at least 6 large storage facilities withing minutes of each other, within an area of 3 or 4 very small communities, of which the total population might be 8000 (2000 or less per town.) These storage facilities are never used, and are completely non-descript. They blend in with the highway landscape, so to speak...but they are everywhere...not just in my area, but along empty stretches of highway, on the edge of small towns and villages.

Has anyone else noticed that there are way too many storage facilities for the population density. How do they pay rent if no-one uses them. This land is right off the highway, so it can't be dirt cheap.

I noticed them being built quickly in the last several years. All of the sudden, tons of storage facilities where there is no population to use them...

Has anyone else noticed this and what could it mean? I have my guess and it has to do with the confiscation of property when people are rounded up... or storage of nefarious items to be used against Americans....
