Sorry to break your doom porn. Chicago is today even more important than New York City in terms of trading volume. All major trading companies have their headquarters in Chicago and they have not made any move to get out of it or make that location less important. Basically, such an event would disrupt global financial industry to such an extent that they would risk losing control over it. Now, why would they want to do that? Those small companies that look irrelevant to an average person make up over 90% of trading volume on all stock exchanges. They have vast networks all over the world, but the heart that operates everything is in Chicago. |
