Re: Are Laminate Kitchen Counter Tops a Deal Breaker for the Babes?
Granite is out with the gals. Now they want white 'carrera marble countertops' , but can be easily fooled by quartz, which looks identical but obviously cheaper.

Cabinet color has also changed from espresso a few years ago, now to white. Used to be white cabinets made you look like a cheapskate designer, but chicks want it all white now.

Back splash is also now white, subway tiles.

So, if you want to get laid as a single male, rip out those $10k granite countertops, and paint your espresso cabinets white, and don't forget the subway white tiles for the backs splash tile. You're also going to need a sunken white porcelain 'farm' sink, with copper faucets.

Good news for those stuck in the 70's who haven't upgraded their appliances is that avocado is now back in style, so keep your green oven and fridge!

This is true about the trend being white carrera marble counters and white cabinets, even though marble is impractical because the stone is porous and stains, so forget about red wine spills.

Still anything for vanity for most women...it's like wearing high heels--men just don't get it.

Most granite is so 2005 and most look dated, although a few colors still look good.

I've just been shopping and the white marble slabs and copycat marble quartz slabs are all the same price anyway, but the guys selling the countertops won't let me pick marble they say it's a really bad idea.

It seems granite, marble and quartz are all about the same cost, if you're looking at name brand quartz like Ceasarstone or Silestone.

Apparently you can put a hot dish directly on granite but not on quartz, but you have to seal granite annually.

Laminate is fine for a lower end place.

My circa 1965 laminate countertops are holding up fine to my very heavy duty cooking which includes putting my old French enameled 5 lb cast iron pots directly on them straight from the burners and oven without having to worry.

certainly it is a first world problem to rip out expensive countertops , or even renovate, due to the ephemeral bullshit of current 'style'

doesn't happen here in east Europe, where replacement does not happen until really needed

Granite is so year 2000.

Quartz is where it’s at.

I think traditionally in the USA the west coast gets the trends earlier

granite seemed to be mid to late 2000s east coast , or maybe I was behind the times

any new trends, especially useless ones?

sometimes I think stainless steel will be the next (retarded) big thing

all the women will want it , then three years later claim it looks like the inside of a Subway shop

"Mullon Bemmii uued kummid" is probably a better pick up line than
"would you like to see my stamp collection?"
"would you like to see my new granite counter tops?"

Do they install granite counter tops in "Khrushchyovka" apartments?

It is interesting to note that the concrete architecture has gained a lot of fandom in recent times.

"Cladding of the exterior may be undertaken in part to improve the neighbours' view, and cladding itself may bring fire risks; this is widely seen to be one of the causes of the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire"

in

talk about cruel irony: Grenfell Tower was deemed to look too brutal, and the "window dressing" renovation job led to people burning to death.

Re: Are Laminate Kitchen Counter Tops a Deal Breaker for the Babes?
Every house is now built with stone counter tops it seems. Laminate is probably a lot easier to maintain, not sure if it’s a babe deal breaker or not
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77286179

is it ALL houses now in US with stone tops?

what about the cookie cutter 42x30 x 2 story vinyl siding houses

or vinyl siding townhouses? Shirley they also cannot get stone... or can they ??

Re: Are Laminate Kitchen Counter Tops a Deal Breaker for the Babes?
There are different grades of granite.
Classic
Semi-Exotic
Exotic
Rare.

Classic in the US is boring now.
Deal breaker? What? Are you trying to buy a woman?
Is this like a dowrey?

Back in the day a relationship was based on cooperation.

it still is, at least in MY marriage of twenty plus years anyways...

Re: Are Laminate Kitchen Counter Tops a Deal Breaker for the Babes?
on a larger note

how THE FUCK can people STILL be manipulated as to what is 'IN STYLE' - as in 'those counter tops , cabinets, and appliances are out of style'

how braindead are people ??

this goes for clothes also

look at the losers wearing skinny jeans and cutting off circulation to their privates

or even NBA players wearing fucking COULATS like some teenage girl , WTF

if I was in the NBA , I would INSIST on wearing rugby style nut huggers , like the ones John Stockton always wore

and my counter tops would be laminate

and I would drive a Pontiac Firebird - like Johnny Lawrence - because why not

Re: Are Laminate Kitchen Counter Tops a Deal Breaker for the Babes?
I find granite tops too solid too bang their head against. So laminate for that.

But, if you poor a bit of oil on a granite surface the results are fantastic for frictionless back and forth.

Everything in life is a compromise. Ive been in many kitchens.
