Texas cities are turning blue because no one goes out and votes in local elections. It's horrible & frustrating to watch. So if you move here and become a citizen please make sure to....

IF you do move to TX, stay away from anywhere near Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Shithole liberal cities. Amarillo, Lubbock, just about all other towns are good people and good economy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77419120

You're right about that! San Antonio wants to be San Francisco so badly it makes me want to vomit. Lots of other people feel the same yet no one shows up to vote for mayor or city council. It is beyond frustrating. What the fuck can we do to get conservatives to vote in local elections? We're going to lose TX to the demonrats and it's going to be due to voter apathy in LOCAL elections!

Yeah...I'm fucking beating this dead horse. The fucker has to come back to life because I'm fucking goddamn sick & tired of having an asshole POS communist for a fucking mayor!!!

Yep....but the sad thing is, it could be a whole lot better if conservatives got out and voted and we got some fucking new leadership around here!

Last year, our mayor and city council passed altogether on even trying to get the RNC convention held here. These fucking Leftist commies didn't hold a townhall, no meetings, they just decided we couldn't have the RNC convention here because "it's not who we are as a city". Fucking millions, maybe even billions lost in revenue because Leftist assholes decided this with no outside input whatsoever. Fuck San Antonio and their fucking COMMUNIST mayor and Shitty council!!!

Re: Relocate to Texas..?
If you can get over here to US, you will grow to love it and the feeling of freedom. Your children will have more opportunity.

That being said, however, there are always painful adjustments with any large life change. It is stressful to pick up an entire family and move to a different country with a different culture. There is a learning curve involved, and emotional ties which will affect your entire family unit.

If your employer will agree to begin green card proceedings for you, and pay all associated expenses, and you feel confident that your job with them is secure, I would say go for it. Even if you end up not loving the area, once you get your green card you can move wherever you want in the US and be employed by anyone. In the interim, you could travel to different part of the country to see what you prefer. It's a huge country with varied climate and scenery and political inclinations. East coast is more densely populated and rigid, and the western states are more open and free.

I wouldn't do it without the green card assistance, which is a three year (approximately) process while you work only for that employer sponsoring you.

This is a great opportunity. Anticipation and fear are similar emotions, don't misinterpret what you are feeling. Many people have walked a thousand miles with no money and no job offer in order to cross illegally in the US. You get to fly in on a jet and be welcomed with a job and an furnished apartment and a paycheck. Lucky guy!

I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Luckily our kids have grown up and left home now so thats not an issue... I think i'd keep our home in the UK though - just in case things went tits-up!

My employer said they'd take care of any visa requirements so none of that would be a problem. Only thing is the company President in the US is wary of "overloading the office with foreigners" as there's already a few europeans over there. He seems to think the local guys might become a bit unsettled about it - thats one of the reasons i was asking how Texans tend to take to outsiders...

My partner also has some health issues which are taken care of in the UK - Not sure how we'd stand with that in the US...

I've lived in DFW area for almost a decade now . Dallas county I would stay away from unless your wealthy enough to live in the area unaffected by the recent crime waves. It seems to me there is a shooting at least ever day in that area. Tarrant ( Fort Worth ) is just west of Dallas and has half the crime. Its not a liberal county like Dallas . Just my $.02 . No matter where you live in DFw Traffic is a nightmare. only exacerbated by endless construction. Austin I also hear is like Dallas but I never been there so I can't confirm.

I would stay away from these places:

2) Dallas (Expensive/high crime)
3) El Paso (too many illegals)

If you're thinking Houston, avoid living in a flood plain as your most important consideration. Politics, hell. Houston seems liberal, but has always been diverse, being a port city, and the conservatives are definitely strong there.

Eight miles south of Houston, be very careful - you are in the petrochemical complex area if you're too far east; eight miles north, be careful - if you buy or rent, look for the phrase "has never flooded." Or rent the top floor of something.

i live in San Antonio - our city council DOESNT LISTEN to the people ( re imagine the Alamo project). Chik Fil A is being systematically targeted over ideology and run out of the Business end of the SAIA. El Paso is being overrun with all of the Illegals which are being Shunted HERE to catholic charities to take the overload and RELEASED into the CITY. at least 15% ( very conservative est.) of the city is CARTEL/ Gang controled mostly on the South Side closest to the Border. Houston isnt much better. - it sits in a large bowl or basin so when Hurricane season comes around it FLOODS and there are like only TWO major freeways out of the city. so if your impression of texas is freedom - DONT BELEIVE IT. its NOTHING like anyone in the media has EVER said it was. there is an ACTIVE push to turn texas BLUE. right now its PURPLE with all three major mega cities having BLUE leadership in a state with a RED governor.

Depending on the neighborhood and its density of concrete and sea level, about once a year a good one can happen during hurricane season.

God, I hope Texas is not turning blue. I left there years ago because of the illegal influx. Texas has an outstanding Red Governor just now, very popular.

Depends on where you are. Hurricane Harvey was devastating flooding, but it was like a 1000 year flood, and very unusual. Avoid living on a bayou -- they are slow moving water, and slow to drain in the case of torrential rain. The area I mentioned yesterday, Taylor Lake Village and Seabrook, did not flood during Harvey, as the water quickly emptied into the Bay.

OP the only way you'll know for sure if moving to Texas is a good fit for you is to just give it a try. I've moved around more times than I can count, and you're going to have both positive and negative comments about living in an area regardless of where you're moving to. You're the only one that will be able to decide if it's for you by experiencing it for yourself.

As far as Brits moving to the US I currently live in the Atlanta, GA area and have met quite a few Brits that have moved here, and so far all of them love living here. The only thing you might miss are some of the local foods, etc that you're used to, but there are quite a few British stores around here that import and sell a lot of that stuff for their British customers.

I say give it a shot and see what happens. You can always move back to the UK if it doesn't work out right?

I've had enough. Our government have betrayed us massively over Brexit. Local politicians won't listen to anything I have to say about the state of our local area. We're having our culture and way of life destroyed by mass immigration and foreign cultures. The roads / traffic everywhere I go is unbearable. House prices are ridiculous. Saving rates are in the gutter. They tax the living shit out of me on my salary, other property I own, fuel costs, council tax, TV licence and more. Gay/Transgender agenda is constantly being promoted (even police cars & vans have been decorated in rainbow colors!). Policemen walking around with rainbow painted nails. Businesses everywhere flying the rainbow flags. I wake up this morning to the news the EU have decided all new vehicles will be built with speed limiting devices controlling how fast you can drive and motion trackers based on which road you're on. I could go on and on...

I'm tired of it all, and not having a voice. Whenever a concern is raised, it's brushed to one side and ignored, and you're slapped with a label to silence you.

My company have offered me a position in our Texas office, close to Houston. I've visited 8 times, and from what I've seen, it's very different to the UK in many ways...

It's not a case of allowing shit to happen - Things happen without people being asked.

No one asked for the LGBT agenda. No one asked for mass immigration. No one asked for the EU to encroach on every aspect of our lives.

Yet when we do make a stand as is the case with the Brexit vote, the whole political class go into overdrive to stop it. The fuckery is in full force.

Today - 29th March at 11pm should be our EU leaving date. We should be parting in the streets.

BUT we've been screwed over - It's not happening... The scumbags have delayed it.

Re: Relocate to Texas..?
How often are the floods..?

No-one in our office has mentioned flooding issues...

If we get a hurricane, stay the HELL out of Houston/Harris county, bottom line.

By the way you sound OP, you'd be welcomed down here. I'm Northwest of Houston by about an hour's drive out in the cow fields. Heavily Republican area (unless you're "in town" proper where the delinquent trash lives. Outside "city limits" it's solid red country folk). Git on down here!
