Without a doubt with the fears and superstions of the local population the number of cases is probably many times higher than is being reported. I don't know if the Congolese practice the same rituals as Liberians like dancing with the dead or not but this does seem to be more virulent then the Liberian outbreak. It's hard to find current news on it, at least when I look it up

BUT Samaritan's Purse doctor and nurse who were infected, and came back to Charlotte (under lax quarantine) probably made a vaccine from their blood since they survived and beat Ebola.

So yes, they are working on a trial. But the Africans are suggesting that the vaccine program is genocide instead and there are lots of witchcraft remedies going around, like a virgin will cure AIDS.

Meanwhile, wildfire and this virus can be weaponized. (biologicals are haram in Islam... doesn't mean that a desperate MbS won't use them).

Africans have a very different outlook on life than the West.

Ebola is REAL ... and it is tough to treat.

It is possible they will lose their "containment" with this outbreak due to a combination of factors:

a) Clinics being attacked by guerrillas
b) Superstition that quack cures work
c) Superstition as to how it is caused
d) Hygiene Practices, both with sick people who are alive and in how they handle the burial after death

The cross over point for losing containment is probably when around 5000 to 10,000 people have it and are alive simultaneously.

During the last big outbreak at it's height there were about 2000 - 3000 simultaneous cases, but those also were NOT occurring in a War Zone and health care workers weren't being killed outright by armed gangs. (however some were killed by locals who thought they were spreading the disease)

ONCE Ebola, or a related disease, starts to really run - well PANIC will break out in Africa. It won't be a pretty sight when that happens.

We need to have a Real Honest national talk about vaccines and whether they even work and whether we really want them.

Lots of young girls were killed or damaged by taking guardasil vaccines and we still don't even know if they will work. I believe that vaccines are responsible for our national autism epidemic.
