An area 100x100 is TEN THOUSAND square miles.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76886332

10 x 10 is a hundred.
Quoting: TheGasMan II

Are we talking linear miles...100 miles x 100 miles = 10,000 Miles

or Square miles 100 miles X 100 miles =100 Square miles

Transmission loss

Percent down for repair

Environment impact, heat island effect

There are many unknown unknowns to be cautious about.

Side effect if they did this is it makes it easy to knock out the power.

Interesting thought though.

“If you wanted to power the entire United States with solar panels, it would take a fairly small corner of Nevada or Texas or Utah; you only need about 100 miles by 100 miles of solar panels to power the entire United States,”

“The batteries you need to store the energy, so you have 24/7 power, is 1 mile by 1 mile. One square-mile.”

It’s “a little square on the U.S. map, and then there’s a little pixel inside there, and that’s the size of the battery park that you need to support that. Real tiny.”

If this were spread over the United States connected by a power grid sounds doable and not very intrusive, the panels also being on top of building roofs.. What we waiting for?

Giant storage batteries the size of Montana would be cool, all you need is one battery in each state, let's do this!!

Or, we could stack all 50 batteries on top of each other IN Montana.

Lets see.....That would be 50 square Montanas.

And when those solar panels and batteries wear out in 10 years, and need to be replaced with another 100 sq miles of panels where are we going to dump the 100 sq miles of toxic materials?

Solar energy is is inefficient..

derp. probably 1/1000 the volume of radioactive water waste that nuclear power plants produce.

the volume of freshwater fracking destroys is probably 10,000 times the volume of the solar panels.

million things you could actually use old solar panels for

The other side of the equation...

Consumption of energy is encouraged. Energy companies manipulated the industry for profit.

Energy is wasted unnecessarily.

Yup, a certain percent will always be under repair or replacement. Along with reduced out put before having to be replaced.

That, the maintenance is a huge cost that will be passed down to consumers.

I would say strictly solar is foolish.... However, if we set up Massive solar greenhouses with see-through panels, combined with harvesting Wind/Tide energy from the Air and Sea- Creating an entirely new grid, now THAT would be something...

and just think they could do this for the cost of military operations in one month

outrageous.

the selfish , anti socialist greed of a few, selfish, evil outweighs the simple plan for paradise of hundreds of millions.

the biggest thing we lack is the military power to arrest the criminals in charge, making the decisions, bossing the courts and police around.

you have to be able to boss people around and threaten their lives to do what you want.

you need consent of lots of smart people

looking at this thread, you can see what the real problem is.

we got a bunch of malformed human beings who can barely think, and I'll bet you quite a few of them are employed by the military shill contractors

Septic tanks and sewage systems can tap a lot of electricity.

Research was done by using microbes that break down waste which produce free electrons.

In nature that charge is immediately grounded. But in isolated systems that electron can be used.

Plus, the released methane can heat homes.

The end product can feed plants.

If every home had such waste treatment, we solve several issues.

Less pollution and more Earth friendly waste.

But consumer waste is way to high to ignore.

It's like needing more income despite spending on crap that is not needed. Sometimes saving is the better option. I believe we need to work on reducing electric waste first. Or else well simply use more energy and demand more.

only.

only 10000 square miles

only 1 million 593 thousand panels per square mile

only 15 billion 593 panels required

At only 800 per panel including panel / inverter / assembly, it would only cost about 12 trillion 744 billion.

only about 38000 per person

only about 144 000 for a family of 4

Not including the batteries, or tying into distribution.

Or using the resistance from generators as brake augme tation for vehicles.

Even mechanical storage of momentum as a braking system would save A LOT. Most fuel is wasted in acceleration.

If that momentum can be captured while braking, it can be applied to acceleration.

It's a carrot in front of the Democrat mule.

waste of toxic old panels and batteries doesn't matter if are in a centralized place or scattered all over a country for a same amount of waste but recycling would be much easier and more cost effective
however is so much few places, easy to attack, even by terrorist cells in land, coordinated and with c4 dropped by drones w/timer or remote radio, hard to detect if done along some weeks... should need to be some dozens, even for redundancy, and very monitored electronically
in the end, greener powetr sources, as are in the opening, need to be highly scattered due to terrorism risk, while thermoelectrics and hydroelectrics are closed, strong buildings

Plus the cost of cleaning those panels.

Large areas of panels may create strong static charge or encourage dry weather, preventing rain fall locally.

they don't supply ALL the power continuously, it's only to supplement during high demand, and they store energy during low demand

but see how can we build anything while we are spending that money destroying Venezuela's hydroelectric damn, that supplies 80% of the electricity to Venezuela??

you are sitting here saying it's impossible, when Venezuela, ACTUALLY has a hydroelectric damn, that ACTUALLY supplies 80% of their electricity.

and the neocon demons are hitting it with EMP weapons, destroying it. instead of just building this solar power field.

and what's more paying hordes of mouth breathers to deny us these basic resources, that should be free by creating a moron consensus against such obvious solutions.

why are we allowing them to create our money when this is what they do with it? or take our taxes out of our paychecks?

how the fuck can they take your money out of your paycheck before you get it?
