Unless they take some of that money and bring back the American farmer? Thier farms are horror movies and first they flood em, then lock em in the barns to drown. Not the whole countrys cattle in 3 horrific places, all over the country the way they used to be. Same with the onions and potatos. More people get more quality food and have regional resources.

I'd love to have the budget to go full tilt now on a 5 year expansion strategy.
But.....last time, the gov went to farms, destroyed thier crop and told em if they replant, they are interfering in interstate commerce and they would sieze everything. They still do it quietly, being the muscle that creates excuses to enforce the corporate farm only.

Instead of complaining think about what you can do.

Here is an easy way to start

I buy Burpee seeds or cheaper way find someone near you that collects heirloom seeds and use those.

I buy the Jiffy 72 pod planters at Walmart. They are 6 dollars and 80 cents. They make seed planting easier. Not cheap but easy.

I buy jiffy moisture control soil. Not cheap but you only water once every two weeks. Once seedlings are too big for the pods move them into gallon buckets. You can move these easier if it gets too cold outside.

Once I plant I reuse the buckets and trays from the pods.

This is not the cheapest way but rather the easiest way. Like if you want to learn to garden but have a job and not a lot of time.

If it is still cold in your area you will need to keep your plants inside with artificial lights until they can go outside.

This is going to be necessary for everyone as no doubt food prices will go up. And up. And up.

So what, just a bunch of farmers and ranchers looking for free handouts. Screw em, wait until next year. If you can't make ends meet, move to Mexico.

My friend that moved here from Nebraska told me her friend's cattle are now losing their skin from being stuck in the freezing water. Many of them are basically being skinned alive. And they aren't able to live through the ordeal.

Also many hay fields have 20 foot high mile long mountains of ice in them assuring that they cannot be harvesting hay this year.

It is not good, and tbh, with the magnetic pole shift, I expect more disasters to occur.

While I detest GMO's probably more than most people, not everyone in NE is growing GMO feed or food.

It's going to get ugly.

Just start growing. On the cheap, look up DIY planters. Freeze leftover seeds. My garden this year is less pitiful than last year, but it's getting a lot more attention, those seedlings. Companion planting. Moon planting. Do it all up right and have a meatless meal day once a week as necessary - pizza works well there, so do fried cauliflower patties. Yum.

More likely that the cattle are losing their skin due to chemical burns from all the crap in the soil.

We do the same type ^^^^^^ things and its the only way we get some really good stuff that is high on the market or coming from china or hot spot.
Families need to think about and coordinate thier efforts - that was once common. What's wierd is the idea of anything different. People do better producing and trading with each other as a group, than community gardens that aren't secured. Some farms secure a garden and people work for the discount. The successful and healthy ones are all making ways and means in thier area and while shipping lasts. Example of a simple thing to do: goji berries, contaminated from china $35lb; American grown $135lb until more people have rows of em. The crop conversions set the market high and until people catch up the price doesn't go down much.

Flyover farmers were not in that until barry and bus services provided. The Mega ones were like Tyson, who was always getting raided because it was easier to catch them there than where they were hid spread out.
Family farms are what is needed and crop subsidies (handouts) ARE abused....by Mega fkrs who make money no matter what happens and couldn't care less. You don't want to cut out the family farm and since they aren't professional corporate criminals, they really do have to have titles of equipment damaged and receipts of losses shown in black and white, as well as previous seasons records where adjusted crop start figures come from.

The point is the ones that can go right back to carrying US on thier back, everybody eating better and not $10 white bread.

I agree that its a perfect time for a policy shift to just not re-start megas and focus on the huge number of family farms, farm associations and the smaller regional producers who don't use hell machines because unless you are hell machine level its not cost effective. They are bigger versions of family methods.

I am sure plenty will do gmo too, meaning all who don't, have everything sold before they even plant it and bids on the next.

Crop futures would seem a good thing to be in because if they crash the money you still own eating.

1 million acres is 1562.5 sq mi

This is only about 25% the size of Connecticut or 50% the size of Puerto Rico or 125% the size of Rhode Island.

Also empty factories can be turned into hydroponic planting facilities. Employ local people, oversee with experienced farmers.

Do not contract out to Corporations, as you will lose the opportunity to stimulate the local economy.

Use Fema "coffins" as raised planter beds and hook up watering system.

Fund this with emergency funds directly to state, to people in state.

Enough people are adapting to a more plant based diet to support this.

Hemp - plant Hemp in place of Ethanol. (and about 100 other things.)

Feed Chickens hemp seed, this will give the proper ratio of Cannabinoids to Humans and greatly increase the Countries Health.

Give Federal (Bank) loans to anyone (reasonably) who wants to farm. The only reason we outsourced in the mid 1900's was because our land lacked the ability to provide nourishing food. This was the report that spawned the trading with other countries.

Where the farmers get a trial approval from the Government to grow
Marijuana to sell to the Government, for testing from FDA for medical evaluation and testing to prove the value as a medical treatment, also for Law Enforcement to evaluate enforcement (safe driving levels etc.) before the push to decriminalize Nationally.

This would do a number of things,
Like Force the Left To Support The President on something that they’ve been pushing already as supposed supporters of marijuana legalization.

Also a way to financially prevent disaster for the Farmers as well as US
Economic damage from the floods which were horrible and loss of a million heads of cattle.etc.

All while bringing the Government’s ability to research the marijuana
Medical testing and law enforcement testing giving true research which has been restricted for years. And bringing the country together under the interest of legalization by both sides of the political divide in the United States.. This would be the ULTIMATE WIN for President Trump

weird, floods used to restore farmland. made a mess of the villagers, but the soil was refreshed.

A million acres is a lot of land, but only 0.109% of the productive farmland in the USA, this won't have any wider impact. A million cattle is also a lot but not compared to national numbers.

Food prices are going to go higher than they already are. This is actually starting to scare me a little because crops are getting wiped out all over the globe...
