What does the local farmer state? It will take a couple years to reclaim the land for planting again.
If your entire yard/acreage/farm flooded, would you have quick access to functional machinery and viable seed, to immediately plant as soon as the floodwaters subside?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75717594

Bull SHIT. Periodical flooding happens and farming resumes as soon as the ground is dry enough to plow.

They don't wait around to "reclaim". Big fat liar.

OMG! Can't plant GMO corn?! Oh the tragedy.

I feel sorry for the small farmers, but most of those are large industrial farms planting soy and corn - don't feel sorry for them.

Also, I don't eat the shit that corn and soy gets turned into

Think food is expensive now??

Just wait until fall

If there is one....

I've been saying this since the flood in several threads - purchase now - cereals, pork, bacon, chicken, anything made with corn, which is almost everything, soybeans - the lot. Hope this thread gets a few more to actually think about it.

Re: More than 1 million acres of U.S. cropland ravaged by flood, DOOM for economy unless...?
Questions to whomever might know:
1. How much grain mash would a "million" less bovines not consume in the years prior to going to the market?
2. How expensive will it be at the pump without the hectares of corn going into the ethanol we consume daily?
3. How long will it take for the drillers to ramp up output to fill-in-the-gap made by the loss of ethanol and will the price at the pump be affected by the shortage of food for the oil company workers?
4. If the "farmers" just decide to sit this season out will that impact upcoming elections if there isn't any Federal and State disaster fund payouts?

Regards and thanks, DES
 Quoting: MooDESamberWaves 76953084

Glad you mentioned gas - because yes, the price will be affected by the loss of corn, so as it is going up for summer, just know it is going up more and more than usual, and not coming down in the fall. Another joy from this storm.

Re: More than 1 million acres of U.S. cropland ravaged by flood, DOOM for economy unless...?
I am LDS
We have two years of food storage
Plus we do a lot of other things right

Instead of complaining think about what you can do.

Here is an easy way to start

I buy Burpee seeds or cheaper way find someone near you that collects heirloom seeds and use those.

I buy the Jiffy 72 pod planters at Walmart. They are 6 dollars and 80 cents. They make seed planting easier. Not cheap but easy.

I buy jiffy moisture control soil. Not cheap but you only water once every two weeks. Once seedlings are too big for the pods move them into gallon buckets. You can move these easier if it gets too cold outside.

Once I plant I reuse the buckets and trays from the pods.

This is not the cheapest way but rather the easiest way. Like if you want to learn to garden but have a job and not a lot of time.

If it is still cold in your area you will need to keep your plants inside with artificial lights until they can go outside.

This is going to be necessary for everyone as no doubt food prices will go up. And up. And up.

Excellent advice! LDS does a lot of things right, and food storage and preparation is a big one!

At least 1 million acres (405,000 hectares) of U.S. farmland were flooded after the "bomb cyclone" storm left wide swaths of nine major grain producing states under water this month, satellite data analyzed by Gro Intelligence for Reuters showed.

Farms from the Dakotas to Missouri and beyond have been under water for a week or more, possibly impeding planting and damaging soil. The floods, which came just weeks before planting season starts in the Midwest, will likely reduce corn, wheat and soy production this year.

"There's thousands of acres that won't be able to be planted," Ryan Sonderup, 36, of Fullerton, Nebraska, who has been farming for 18 years, said in a recent interview.

Just think what's in that river now, and will be after May. Don't count on fish to supplement the meats we cannot buy - the river is ruined for a long time to come - and it flows to the ocean, meaning poisoning shellfish and ocean fish. This disaster is one that will keep on giving for years.

Yep. ALL food prices. The one million calves isn't even all of it.

My friend that moved here from Nebraska told me her friend's cattle are now losing their skin from being stuck in the freezing water. Many of them are basically being skinned alive. And they aren't able to live through the ordeal.

Also many hay fields have 20 foot high mile long mountains of ice in them assuring that they cannot be harvesting hay this year.

It is not good, and tbh, with the magnetic pole shift, I expect more disasters to occur.

While I detest GMO's probably more than most people, not everyone in NE is growing GMO feed or food.

It's going to get ugly.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

All we can do is keep telling them. So many just don't get it and won't listen. They will suffer more than we, and we will have plenty of trouble considering pricing and availability, and as you say, this is not the only disaster with which we will have to contend. I shake my head at those who say it's all simple, it's not a problem. These are the ones that will think we should take care of them when the time comes. Not happening.

Hundreds of thousands of acres will not be planted this year. The Missouri and Mississippi rivers will flood most of the summer. Millions of bushels are destroyed in the flood waters. The solar minimum may shorten the growing season this year with late and early freezes. A lot of things are adding up to big problems.

Unfortunately, yes. Such a blessing to read from someone like you who actually gets it! And you are right - this could be the bubble-burster. Those who didn't listen, didn't believe, will not be prepared for anything at all.

Hope some know you and will listen to you. Several of us keep trying, and only a few listen to each of us, apparently.

God knows what's coming - life is not going to be easy any more - think it's tough now? Just wait.

Plant a garden if you have any space at all. If you have no space, buy a few planters and do it that way. Anything you can produce, you don't have to buy or do without. ONLY BUY HEIRLOOM SEEDS!! That way you know there is no GMO involvement, and you thus can save seeds for next year's crops. Save them from the very best example of the produce near the end of the season, so next year's will be the best, as well. Non-heirloom seeds will not produce true to type and will be a waste of space - that's why we need heirloom seeds.

Good luck, everybody. Trust us - it's coming!

Makes me so happy when someone who understands the problems posts - maybe a few will listen to you! We need people to understand, and so many just close their minds and say it is not happening.

All the grains that were stored in silos are gone. The water got to the bottom of them and even if the top layers are still good, they have to be destroyed, legally. It's all gone. Anything planted is gone. Mini-ice age will shorten growing season, as you said -

SO right that I will quote you again: "A lot of things are adding up to big problems."

Scary thought. Agenda 21 moving right along, no? So many things aimed at us at once - shaking my head - this is not the country I grew up in and have loved for well over half a century. This is nothing like the way I grew up, everything I have believed in all these years, all the hopes we had for the future. Now survival is our greatest hope. That's incredibly sad.

We are not meant to survive - especially not the Christians. White people seem the target, and white Christians the greatest.

Food, crime brought from south, potentials wars, G5 - eliminating us right along. And someone on here reminded me last night of all the gallons of poison purchased recently by our government. Poison for humans. How can this even be a thought, much less an actual purchase?

God help our nation and those of us who cherish it and want the Constitution to survive and prosper.

Hello Penny Preppers! You most assuredly are right, its a disaster still unfolding. It will effect your prices going out to eat just as fast as the grocery store and with 45 million illegal mouths to feed, you can imagine the possibilities. Ive already been out and bought new railroad ties to stack up and back fill with sod for planting. I have a short growing season here in the mountains it will have to be covered in case of hail but im piling lumber because I know whats coming, its a simple math equation.

Lets see, with food a plenty it cost me and one other person 34 dollars for a burger and fries at a restaurant, with a tip. Prices have already been steadily climbing for 3 years at least. What used to cost 28 dollars is now 34 dollars.

At the base of the entire totem pole though is the farmer and rancher in the same sinking ship. They too have been fighting prices of fuel cost of living and 60% have been struggling for the last eight years just to stay a float. suffering a catastrophic loss like what ive been seeing across the board has me hearing from thousands that they are done and cant recover. I call that real doom financially for many. Luck favors the prudent. Its even easy to grow food in an apartment setting if you know how. Ive read many comments on this thread about no significant threat and this southern boy says different.hayseedbattleflag

I was watching videos footage I think it was in Wisconsin where giant sheets of ice overflowing the rivers moving down stream that was at least a foot or more thick! It took out structures and even steel buildings and garages like they were card board boxes. One guy had a massive pig farm nearly a thousand hogs and only managed to save 14 of them. The job alone gathering the live stock for burial before disease spreads? Over a million head of diseased cattle?
Not to mention most lost all of their farming equipment...all of it! Trucks personal vehicles. Then there are all the storage silos that stored enough to feed our entire country for a year mostly all destroyed. Flood waters seven feet high come rolling through and all that grain at the ground level swells and blows the bottoms out contaminating most all of it stored. I think its much worse than most of you think. And we will all recognize that soon enough.peace

Re: More than 1 million acres of U.S. cropland ravaged by flood, DOOM for economy unless...?
We plant a LOT of alfalfa for our horses, cattle, other livestock, and for our neighbors too. We plant in early spring, after the freeze ends... in other words, now.

But we cannot plant anytime soon, because we have hundreds of acres still under water. :/

First the soil needs to dry out. Then we rake, till the soil, rake again to break up any clods to six inches down, then level the soil.

Then we spread fertilizer, then test the PH level of the soil, and adjust to the recommended level.

Then we use a seed spreader to spread 15 to 20 pounds of Heirloom Alfalfa seeds per acre. We rake a layer of soil over the top of the seeds.

It takes about 70 days from planting to harvest. We usually can do two rounds before the weather gets too bad again to plant/harvest alfalfa.

Nothing can be done until the soil dries out. If that does not happen before mid-June or end of June, then likely we will not have alfalfa this season at all. It has to be harvested before the rainy season begins again (or we have mold), or the freeze hits in the fall.

Think about it. This was a well-planned out HIT by tptb ... on those of us growing crops in the USA, who manage to avoid the damn govt GMO's, and those who consume what we grow, animals as well as people. :/

exactly!

and what tptb couldn't ruin for those of us growing crops and raising cattle, trying to ignore and avoid their cramming monsanto down everyone throats... they made sure to destroy with these man-made, manipulated, weather-warfare 'storms of the century'.

so whatever/whoever survives this latest round.. wondering what tptb will try next??

Its like the AOC disease is spreading.
Now that im no longer a chemtard conspiracy theorist because the governments admits to global weather modification. There are those that haven't completed the simple math equation. You know where you substract our personal responsibility for climate change and put the brunt of the responsibility on the shoulders of those truly responsible by their own admission??hf

Pork - While there is no vaccine for the disease that causes a 100% mortality rate, researchers might be able to use gene editing to find a new control,

Beef - The flooding is likely to hit cattlemen hard, as well as row crop farmers.

“[Sec. Sonny] Perdue actually set a number that seemed high to us at Pro Farmer—up to 1 million calves in Nebraska,” he added.
