Do you eat cereals? Chickens? Eggs? Pork? Beef?

I've been saying this since the flood in several threads - purchase now - cereals, pork, bacon, chicken, anything made with corn, which is almost everything, soybeans - the lot. Hope this thread gets a few more to actually think about it.

No we try to stay away from GMO SOY, GMO CORN, and gut busting Roundup sprayed wheat! Not to mention the poor animals raised up on this poison. Actually 3rd generation vegetarian here.

Thank you, OP, for making this thread. I've typed and typed and people just don't understand - stock up now, I've said repeatedly, because IF you can get what you want, the price is going to be prohibitive.

Flooding will continue through May - it's nowhere near done - all the snowmelt still to come.

Glad you mentioned gas - because yes, the price will be affected by the loss of corn, so as it is going up for summer, just know it is going up more and more than usual, and not coming down in the fall. Another joy from this storm.

You just don't get it! Another of the angry ones, just want to complain and blame and not see the problem as it really is.

Just think what's in that river now, and will be after May. Don't count on fish to supplement the meats we cannot buy - the river is ruined for a long time to come - and it flows to the ocean, meaning poisoning shellfish and ocean fish. This disaster is one that will keep on giving for years.

All we can do is keep telling them. So many just don't get it and won't listen. They will suffer more than we, and we will have plenty of trouble considering pricing and availability, and as you say, this is not the only disaster with which we will have to contend. I shake my head at those who say it's all simple, it's not a problem. These are the ones that will think we should take care of them when the time comes. Not happening.

It's going to flow down the Mississippi soon and hit alot of farm land. Food prices are already WAY up. E.G. Inflation and thats with a strong dollar. It actually could be what pops the massive fiat bubble.

Hundreds of thousands of acres will not be planted this year. The Missouri and Mississippi rivers will flood most of the summer. Millions of bushels are destroyed in the flood waters. The solar minimum may shorten the growing season this year with late and early freezes. A lot of things are adding up to big problems.

Unfortunately, yes. Such a blessing to read from someone like you who actually gets it! And you are right - this could be the bubble-burster. Those who didn't listen, didn't believe, will not be prepared for anything at all.

Plant a garden if you have any space at all. If you have no space, buy a few planters and do it that way. Anything you can produce, you don't have to buy or do without. ONLY BUY HEIRLOOM SEEDS!! That way you know there is no GMO involvement, and you thus can save seeds for next year's crops. Save them from the very best example of the produce near the end of the season, so next year's will be the best, as well. Non-heirloom seeds will not produce true to type and will be a waste of space - that's why we need heirloom seeds.

All the grains that were stored in silos are gone. The water got to the bottom of them and even if the top layers are still good, they have to be destroyed, legally. It's all gone. Anything planted is gone. Mini-ice age will shorten growing season, as you said -

Hello Penny Preppers! You most assuredly are right, its a disaster still unfolding. It will effect your prices going out to eat just as fast as the grocery store and with 45 million illegal mouths to feed, you can imagine the possibilities. Ive already been out and bought new railroad ties to stack up and back fill with sod for planting. I have a short growing season here in the mountains it will have to be covered in case of hail but im piling lumber because I know whats coming, its a simple math equation.

Lets see, with food a plenty it cost me and one other person 34 dollars for a burger and fries at a restaurant, with a tip. Prices have already been steadily climbing for 3 years at least. What used to cost 28 dollars is now 34 dollars.


At the base of the entire totem pole though is the farmer and rancher in the same sinking ship. They too have been fighting prices of fuel cost of living and 60% have been struggling for the last eight years just to stay a float. suffering a catastrophic loss like what ive been seeing across the board has me hearing from thousands that they are done and cant recover. I call that real doom financially for many. Luck favors the prudent. Its even easy to grow food in an apartment setting if you know how. Ive read many comments on this thread about no significant threat and this southern boy says different.

I was watching videos footage I think it was in Wisconsin where giant sheets of ice overflowing the rivers moving down stream that was at least a foot or more thick! It took out structures and even steel buildings and garages like they were card board boxes. One guy had a massive pig farm nearly a thousand hogs and only managed to save 14 of them. The job alone gathering the live stock for burial before disease spreads? Over a million head of diseased cattle?
Not to mention most lost all of their farming equipment...all of it! Trucks personal vehicles. Then there are all the storage silos that stored enough to feed our entire country for a year mostly all destroyed. Flood waters seven feet high come rolling through and all that grain at the ground level swells and blows the bottoms out contaminating most all of it stored. I think its much worse than most of you think. And we will all recognize that soon enough.

We plant a LOT of alfalfa for our horses, cattle, other livestock, and for our neighbors too. We plant in early spring, after the freeze ends... in other words, now.

But we cannot plant anytime soon, because we have hundreds of acres still under water. :/

First the soil needs to dry out. Then we rake, till the soil, rake again to break up any clods to six inches down, then level the soil.

Then we spread fertilizer, then test the PH level of the soil, and adjust to the recommended level.

Then we use a seed spreader to spread 15 to 20 pounds of Heirloom Alfalfa seeds per acre. We rake a layer of soil over the top of the seeds.

It takes about 70 days from planting to harvest. We usually can do two rounds before the weather gets too bad again to plant/harvest alfalfa.

Nothing can be done until the soil dries out. If that does not happen before mid-June or end of June, then likely we will not have alfalfa this season at all. It has to be harvested before the rainy season begins again (or we have mold), or the freeze hits in the fall.

Think about it. This was a well-planned out HIT by tptb ... on those of us growing crops in the USA, who manage to avoid the damn govt GMO's, and those who consume what we grow, animals as well as people. :/
