tiger1 (OP) User ID: 76712081 United States 04/01/2019 02:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Please pass this scam info on to others on Medicare ! A lot of older people are too trusting, and the fact this guy said that I would lose my coverage if I didn't get a new card would scare the crap out of some of the elderly, and they would comply out of fear of losing their medical coverage. Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow !!! |

Pooka User ID: 36721404 United States 04/01/2019 02:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got a call a little over an hour ago, from a man who said he was from Medicare and my Medicare card was a temporary one, and I had to get a new one. Of course I didn't give the caller any info. The scary thing was, the caller had my full name and address, and rattled that off to me ! The caller said that if I do not confirm my birth date, etc, to get my new medicare card, that I will not be able to use my Medicare card unless I do confirm the information he was rattling off.I refused, and he said I had to either call the Medicare number which he gave me, or go to the local office because I had to get a permanent card. This made it sound legit, but I didn't comply anyway, and hung up the phone. Quoting: tiger1 I reported this bogus call to Medicare immediately, calling from the number on the back of my medicare card, which, BTW, IS the same number the scammer gave me, to sound legit. This is a new scam, confirmed by Medicare.I am sure that some older people might get scared and comply with the callers request. DO NOT CONFIRM ANYTHING! Hang up and call the Medicare phone number on the back of your card to report the call.I also called the FTC and checked to make sure my phone number is still on the do not call list. FYI: Medicare NEVER cold calls someone, NEVER ! They will send you a letter about an issue, but will NEVER cold call you ! Great job, Tiger1, on letting people know about this ugly little scam!! Hope many read this and are prepared! Five shiny ones, of course, and green for you! Prayer is the most powerful force on earth. “I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.” Abraham Lincoln I sign all karma given. Would that those giving it to me followed suit. |

They are still catching on. a dude at my work about 20 years older than me told me of this conversation he had with someone on the phone where he confirmed a whole slew of information like name and birthdate, work place and address. I said 'did you confirm they were who they said they were?' he said 'no.' So I said, 'go hire an identity theft team or keep your eyes open. you just got tricked' |

When I was talking to the customer assistant at Medicare, she told me to be on the lookout for another current medicare scam.Seniors are getting durable medical equipment delivered to them, that they, nor their health care provider ordered for them. Refuse the delivery, or send it back. If you accept it, you will be stuck paying for it. If you accept it and do not pay for it, collections and a tarnished credit report will follow. Quoting: hankie LOL ! I get a LOT of calls from "medicare services", to get back braces, knee braces, all kinds of medical devices and supplies. Sometimes I just hang up immediately, sometimes I tell them to not call anymore, and they still call back no matter if I hang up or tell them not to call anymore. They are relentless. The same with "credit card services", "home security systems", "medical alert devices", "extended vehicle warranties", etc. Even though I am on the "do not call list", some of these scammers call me multiple times a day. I got a call three days ago Friday about a "Pain Relieving Brace" that would be shipped to me at no charge. I hung up immediately. I have great healthcare and need nothing sent to me. Until your military service has required you neutralize enemy combatants and invaders in the defense of your country, don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy. |
DGN User ID: 76673672 United States 04/01/2019 03:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's another one. I got a call from an unidentified recording saying my card will be charged $99 monthly, "press one to ok or press two to decline." Surely pressing two would in fact ok the charge scam. I hung up, so another heads up. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77365800 United States 04/01/2019 03:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My phone lets me know a probable scam call as it rings, so I answer it, but remain silent (don't say "hello", don't say a word).. until a real person starts talking....after he/she says her first sentence, I say, "YOU STUPID CUNT." their usual method: It is usually a person asking for a person with a different name than mine, then they say..."Oh! maybe we can ask you for money instead!" |

PiccoloGal User ID: 72423599 United States 04/01/2019 03:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We had a fire in our apartment building last fall and our fire dept. has been totally downsized. If there had been another fire in town, we would have been screwed. Someone scoured the newspapers knowing full well about the downsizing cuz immediately after, someone called asking for a donation to the fire dept. annual fund raiser. If anyone isn’t sure if it’s legit, just never, ever give out information. I always ask them to send a request from their dept. thru the mail. Just be steadfast that you will not give them any information over the phone. If they can’t deal with that, they’re not to be trusted. Of course, hanging up works too. |
