75 years is much too long to keep entire Armies in someone elses country and still expect them to learn how to defend themselves. We see it now that Europe seems unable to defend itself from invading hordes of immigrants.

I don't really care about the US bases. I love Americans. I don't want EU army and NATO has got to go too. Especially those pesky Eastern European countries that where promised a full nuking of what was left of Russia if the Russians stepped out of line.

We are there to contain Germany. It was Germany that has been the aggressor for the past century.

Most of those bases have saved those nations the necessity of building their own armies, navies and air defense forces. We should be getting paid for keeping their nations secure and eliminating the necessity of them paying for it themselves!

I agree, but for different reasons. I think it is long overdue for Europe to protect itself. I think we ought to immediately close ALL our bases in every European country, bring home ALL our troops and equipment - leaving NOTHING pre-positioned or stored anywhere in Europe.

Aside from reduced population and air traffic, the first thing Europeans will notice is the severe downturn in local commerce. Business will dry up in areas surrounding US Bases. No more money.

The next thing Europeans notice will be a 50-75% tax increase to cover all that lost economic activity and to pay for THEIR OWN military!

Yes, I'm sure the Europeans will be very happy about that; but not nearly as happy as I will be to have my troops back home.

I agree that the troops should be brought home but not as a form of punishment for Europeans. Both sides are at fault as this thread details. However, 75 years is too long for such occupation. Europeans may not like it financially but they will adjust. Same for Japan and Korea.

We should have left in 1991/1992 after the USSR not just collapsed but disintegrated.

The US pulled out of the Philippians in 1992 and should have done the same thing in Europe ... and the Middle East at the same time.

WW III will likely be nuclear. So Op has a good queztion... esp. after the Soviet Union dissolved.

Further the US should NOT have gotten involved in the Ex- Yugoslavia ... it is part of Europe and it was up to Europe to solve that problem.

I fully expect that if the US pulled out of Europe that it would only take ONE generation before Europeans would be back to fighting each other ... that is their LONG history, but so be it. The US should let them sort out their own issues and should NOT intervene no matter how bitter or deadly their internal squabbles turn out to be.

Remember when Napoleon went into Russia only about 1% of those he went in with ever came home. Mass death via War or Extermination is the natural dynamic and natural order of Europe. It has been that way for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Time for the US to remove itself from that entire European and it's offshoot, Middle Eastern, dynamic.

Close ALL US bases in Europe and the Middle East. Bring ALL of our men AND EQUIPMENT, including prepositioned supplies, HOME.

This is biggest misconception Americans have about US army in Europe. There's about 55.000 American personel in Germany, in rest of Europe the number is much smaller. Do you guys really think that 60k people significantly influence German economy? German economy is 80 million people strong, your 60k personel is drop in a ocean when it comes to building up German economy. Only ones having benefits are towns/cities where US bases are located. And even in these towns, with the good old German ingenuity they got business running that is independent of the local base in their town. Its freaking Germany ffs, they will make money out of nothing given the urgency.

I would imagine in every town US base is located there is strong middle sized companies doing their thing. Sure some business would take a hit but nothing that would be felt on national level, only in the towns US bases are located. That is peanuts compared to whole German economy.

Reading comments like yours a person get a feeling whole Germany economy is reliant on US military presence. How haughty. All these towns would recover in two years. Lack of American soldiers spending money is the least of the problem and is not an issue at all.

I don't understand what you ment with reduced population as well if Amercians leave. 60k soldiers and families of personel will reduce population? Get real.
