So go and find a place to rent and live for awhile. Give it a year and then decide on a big move. Everyone should live in Hawaii at least once in their life.

Rents are high in Maui.

1000 for a room.

300 a night in a hotel.

I was planning to camp.

I got reason to believe Hawaii is infiltrated by Bad Guys.

Plus, it’s expensive and you better either have money or useful skills.

If you don’t have the means to live there don’t go. Hawaii has enough bums. They camp in the forest and get scabies.

Maui is warmer.

The food is better.

The water is cleaner.

Seems like a no brainer.

When I lived there, I missed the thunderstorms of home. Plus, it was always too hot for me and back then there wasn't much air conditioning. I wouldn't want to move back. Did I mention that it was Very Expensive.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

Re: Contemplating moving to Maui. Any tips or advice.
Very soon a two mile high wall of seawater will wash repeatedly over the island chains all over the world and flush all of the trappings of civilization out into and under the sea.

Buy a boat. Park it in Idaho. When the crustal displacement occurs you may survive. Put your boat into the new ocean just off the Idaho Coast...and sail for some now deserted island. Stake a claim.

Word has it that Idaho will end up near the earth where Florida is now. So save your orange pits because spuds don't grow so well in Florida. Some do of course.

IDAHO...possible, even probable survival of crustal shift.
HAWAII...0, zilch, nadda, chance of suvival.

Figure whatever things cost here will run you 2-3 times as much on Maui. Beer, corn flakes, etc.

A lot of folks who go there find themselves working 2-3 part time jobs in paradise just to make ends meet. A return ticket is a must so when you go broke you can get back to the mainland.

Unless you're really into Reeces, and Spam, the food isn't any better. And you'll pay triple for it. I know people who grew up on Maui. They don't wanna live there. If you're white, the locals won't want you to live there either.

If you go, I hope your rich. Even if you are, it's gonna get boring really quickly.

If you are extraordinarily wealthy, go for it. If not, don't do it. If you are white, you are hated with a ferocity that is beyond words. Once you get out of the nice areas to where people actually live and work, it's like being in a slum. The locals and natives are dumber than any group of people I've ever encountered. And if you are lucky enough to live in a nicer area, you have to deal with the tourists. I had been visiting Maui every summer for twenty years before I made the leap, and I was back on the mainland within six months.

It's what you make of it. Maui will give and give to you, but if you disrespect her, she will kick you off.

Yeah, it's expensive, but if you're supposed to be here, you'll find the means. The pieces will just fall into place.

op...i did exactly what u r thinking of inlate 06

do not do it

the advice given here already is true

racism and lawlessness are everywhere

i gota federal job and was still homeless

5k just to get an apt..and they will steal your deposit
u will never b home because u will b at work paying for the apt that u rnever at..catch 22

costs r high

u will get jumped
u will not be welcomed by anyone..
camping is rare and unsafe...u will b robbed..and zero recourse..it is not the u.s.
it is an indian reservation

u r not safe at the beach

u will not win over any friends

u will not mix in with the tourists..they havetheir own plans already

it seems lime ano brainer..but it is not

unless u r packed with money...and,that wont bring u any less trouble

they rape for fun there
fight and drink
no fair fights..
no respect
just disdain in general

i worked at the jobcore in mukawao..above paia on maui

pure and simple...bad things go on there not put in any tourist brochures

look into it..and uwill see...
