If Gold Is A Worthless Barbaric Relic
If gold is a worthless barbaric relic then why would the ECB be so concerned about the Italians wanting their gold back?

The Italians might be the ones to tip the spinning plate

Nearly every government either got most of their gold back, or bought some more in the recent years.
A worthless barbaric relic? I dont think so.

Spinning plate,thats funny!
We need a visual of what a tonne of gold looks like.is it the same as a ton?
2000lbs?
How much does a brick way?
Whats it to be used for, batteries, explosives, high tech.
What value does gold actually hold?

The value is in the energy and labor cost to mine it, stored labor of sorts

Gold retains the value of Work - as in energy exerted.

You beat me to it :)

It is amazing really...once one grasps the concept of Work being stored in a physical “thing”.

The storage of Work applies to any commodity - except that they become cumbersome to manage and maintain (oil), or simply rot (wheat, corn..etc)

Precious metals are truly unique in that they allow this store value to be transferable between the various commodities.

Even more insane to me is that just a couple of generations ago the citizen of most countries carried actual silver and gold with them on a day-to-day basis.

Think of gold and silver as a time capsule of value. You can essentially buy the same amount of stuff with it today as you could in times past. However, it takes more and more paper bills each and every year.

Thats all fine until its time to eat and walmart doesnt accept gold as payment.
When the planet is half frozen, half flooded, that gold aint shit.i can dig up one bucket of dirt and go to the store, nobody will trade it for food even though its a symbol of labor.
That excuse is stale.
Shiny dongels are going out of fashion.so why care of its value if you cant eat it,smoke it or fuck it?

I assure you that if you have enough gold, you can buy Walmart, but if you only need a package of cereals, there are pawn shops and jewelers that would be very happy to exchange paper notes for your gold.

Gold is not only a reserve of value, it is indispensable in modern technology, even in your cell phone has gold

If the world crumbles to this scenario - what we possess as value is Work (effort). Gold and other commodities store that value. Therefor you will be able to trade it for another’s Work.

It goes beyond that. Gold and silver have physical characteristics that lend themselves well to use as money, a store of value.

They are easily refined and cast into coins and bars. They are easily identified as gold or silver. They don't rust. They have an inherent value in that people like to use them as jewelry due to their luster. And they are rare which is the most important trait of all.

PMs evolved as money over thousands of years. Humans tried all kinds of things as money, but gold and silver rose to the top over time because of their characteristics. They have a high value to humans per unit weight.

Then you are a newb to ct and need to wake the fuck up.there are world destroying works currently.cataclysmic.this planet could teeter in a heartbeat and putting faith in something that will weight you down in a sunami is insane.
One missed asteroid and this planet is mothballed for all but the wise.gold will be junk.there is very little in between that gold will do.
If digital emp happened, aint no pawn shop gonna be open.aint no gov gonna chopper in relief food.and i sure as hell aint selling my food!

Thus what is gold but expensive wire.
If a nuke goes off, well the gold is now contaminated.poison to be near.

In bad times like in the past, gold failed.it gave a hiccup of relief during a suffocation slowly.

Gold holds value in good economies not dead economies.

Rubino: "Gold Is Moving Back Into The Center Of The Global Financial System"

"...They are so worried, they are willing to experiment with monetary policy again in order to prevent the crash that could make them this generation’s Herbert Hoover.”

Financial Writer John Rubino says, “It is possible that a garden variety one year recession would blow-up the financial markets. That’s the stuff that they are hearing (in the White House) that is terrifying. . . . There are probably older and wiser people whispering in Trump’s ear who are saying the next equities bear market might be the end of the financial world for us. . . . They are so worried, they are will to experiment with monetary policy again in order to prevent the crash that could make them this generation’s Herbert Hoover.”

the fed and military counterfeiters can create trillions of dollars worth of currency.

they cannot counterfeit one single ounce of gold. it is an element of the universe.

same with copper, or silver.

and oil. you can't type in '1,000,000,000,000,000 barrels of oil' into a laptop and have it suddenly be real.

Gold actually has uses. The real "valuable" scam is jewelry diamonds. Just shiny rocks with no real use and massively overvalued. Jewelry diamonds are not rare at all, they are artificially inflated in value by a few companies.

The aliens want it.

They'll be back to collect what we have mined since they were here last time.

If you have gold to give to them, you and your family won't be harvested.

No gold and you are dinner and raw resources to be shipped back to their homeworld

Our gold was heavily extracted and used to stabilize the atmosphere of another Planet.

Now, we need to do the same but it is unlikely we will succeed as we covet it for the wrong reasons and probably do not have enough.

it was the craftsmanship of diamonds that made them sparkley and shiny and desirable, the way they relected light internally and seemed to glow and emit light

we have things that actually glow now
