Sure looks that way to me. I've seen them all my life, I've flown around the country a lot and from a window seat at altitude we often fly right by contrails left by the planes in front of us.

Personally I find it amusing anyone would wonder why people are too dumb to look up... when most of the population looks up regularly and sees contrails.
