I got a star on mine when I moved to Indiana 10 years ago. I used my US passport as proof of ID when I got it and they said that's why I got mine. I was able to use my star to sign an affidavit stating my son lived where he said he did (with us) when he went to get his DL but didn't have proof of residency. I was also able to do the same with my wife and daughter later on when they had the same issue. Per the BMV, if I hadn't had that star, they would have had to have come back with mail with our new addresse to get their new DLs.

Not sure if this is worth the massive invasion of privacy since as part of the process they said that my photo was being processed for facial ID mapping but I had to have an DL and could not opt out of it.

Not sure if since I've now moved to Kentucky, the Kentucky BMV will accept my star and give me a new one. I just got my DL renewed in Indiana and it cost me almost $100 with all the CDL endorsements I added. I don't want to have to pay the same or more to Kentucky to get a new one just yet.

Star means that the name on your DL has been cross-referenced w/ the name on your SS card.

I'm in MA too. I just renewed mine NON STAR, regular license. I had to bring my birth cert only... but bring another form too (I had one with me so in case). I went to the one on the Mass Pike, Natick, it was fast.

Are you retarded? It’s for the federal government who is sick of having to deal with states who purposely make license identification extremely easy to defraud to help their illegal aliens. They can’t force the states to change so they created their own standards for a federal ID. A good amount of states have no changes to their ID issuance since they had good practices on what type of paperwork to ask when issuing a new identification and they are automatically given the star, other shitty liberal states have two IDs now. The state ID which federal government is no longer recognizing and the real ID which the state can give if their citizens give the regular paperwork that is required to prove they are who they say they are.

If that’s too much for you to have a real ID that represents who you are rather then tens of millions of illegals with fake names getting identification and defrauding federal welfare then well too bad. The only conspiracy is the liberal states who let this shit happen in the first place where our federal government has to intervene and make this system.
