Seems there is a lobby for anything and everything. No wonder everything is so screwed up. Lobbies are like asking the fox to guard the hen house.

This should prove one thing to each and everyone.

Your congressmen - representative & senators, do not represent your interest. They represent the big money that says "this will hurt our business, f** the little guy!"

Why would anyone want the IRS to do your taxes. The government fucks everything up. Look what they did to health care. And you want them to do your taxes because it will be free?

Anyone who files electronically is a putz. THE LEAST you can do is make them open it by hand and handle it the slow way.

When you have simple taxes so you can do it yourself. I don’t think the IRS would ever “do” your taxes.

I had simple taxes this year TurboTax made me think it would be free got to the end and they advertised $59.99 for nothing really then after I said yes it said ok that will $150. That’s when I realized it was “$59.99 *” and not actually $59.99. I guess the little star represents 100 bucks now. Went on HR block and they also wanted to charge money. Ended up getting through H&R Block free by removing one of the options I actually needed to use and sent it by mail.

Why should I be charged money to pay the government money?

What other explanation besides corruption is there for not being able to do it on the IRS website. It’s blatant. There is no explanation besides protecting a special interest’s profits

The fact that taxes aren't simple enough for everybody to do in minutes demonstrates an incredible failure on the part of our government, and the fact that our politicians value the profits of TurboTax over a free tax filing system demonstrates another incredible failure. The above poster is right, we should not be forced to spend money to give the government money.

FWIW, my taxes are usually about twenty pages long.

The $250 it costs to have them prepared is well worth the usual five figure refund.

They are never 'kicked back', they are properly filed.

I received my refund in February.

It makes sense for the government to allow you to file your taxes for FREE. If they want it electronic, then they have to provide this option.

BUT to be lobbied by the software industry to remove it so they can charge us is absolutely wrong.

I remember when Trump was elected he said our taxes could be filed on a post card. I guess that never happened.

We need a flat tax.

That post card size was in reference to a 1040 and 1040ez.

We have not used it in while because we cannot remember our log in numbers to.
We did not have mobile phones to access other things the Government offers us to access.

So we have been paying $200.00 ti file our taxes and cannot check on the other things at all.

Damn, you need to fire your accountant, you are getting way too much back and letting the government use your money free of charge. People fall into the trap that a huge refund is great. Actually you should owe a little bit, but not so much as to trigger a penalty for under withholding.
