FWIW, my taxes are usually about twenty pages long.
The $250 it costs to have them prepared is well worth the usual five figure refund.
They are never 'kicked back', they are properly filed.
I received my refund in February.

People fall into the trap that a huge refund is great. Actually you should owe a little bit, but not so much as to trigger a penalty for under withholding.
