Diff country/countries were trying to debunk it because the US WON the space-race... and they had/have a hard time dealing with it. Plus the fact that there is an American flag - flying on the moon... making it a US territory.  ...make that six US flags up there (no, we still have no "ownership" of the Moon). You don't "fake" something six times...
