OP - I get where you are coming from, but I also understand where these other people are coming from too.
It is a times of death where people who have strong faith feel even more connected to GOD and their belief system.
They are concerned for their unsaved loved ones because they love them and want to share their faith with them.
I've studied many religions, and to me Christianity not only makes the most sense but seems to tie everything together in a logical way. Not to mention I've had some prayers answered that were pretty amazing. You may not believe in GOD but He is real.
I understand that you do not feel the same way and I am not trying to convert you, I am just giving you 'my story'.
Christianity has a lot of ties with Judaism because Jesus was Jewish and he was the fulfillment of much of the prophecy in the OT.
Mankind has lost their way and Jesus was sent to teach the world of GOD and eventually die to pay for the sins of those who would accept it.
Anyway - some people get really touchy about their faith, especially when someone close to them dies or is near death. My brother died 2 years ago and some of my family ties were strained because of different beliefs. But we are all still family.
Don't take what they say too hard, and also try and understand their side too.

I agree with some of what you have said but disagree with some as well. In the end it all comes down to mercy. Jesus had mercy on the criminal who was crucified along side him and promised he would see him in paradise. At the day of reckoning, I belive that many will be surprised at who receives mercy and who does not. Peace.
