Staff judge advocates from the command were sent to lodge the complaint at Wichit police station in Phuket on Saturday, according to a source at the command. They accused Chad Andrew Elwartowski and his Thai wife, Supranee Thepdet, with an English alias of Nadia Summergirl, of breaching Section 119 of Criminal Code It is punishable by death or life imprisonment The source said officers found evidence which led them to believe the couple was engaging in the setting up of an independent state. Such an act would have a negative impact on the country's shoreline. "The regional office of the Marine Department will be contacted to remove the structure from the sea soon," the source said [link to www.bangkokpost.com (secure)] |

The Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command and Phuket Marine officers yesterday inspected the seasteading structure but no one was found on the steel and aluminum structure which is attached to the sea-floor. An order to remove the ‘seasteading’ structure is now in the process of being prepared. The American behind the structure is part of an international movement to claim offshore areas of water under a loophole in rules pertaining to international waters. He is said to have funded the project after successfully investing in Bitcoin. The Royal Thai Navy has filed a reported at the Wichit Police Station against the couple accusing them of intent to reduce the sovereignty of the State and to deteriorate the independence of the State (rough translation). They respect international law as long as the other sovereign can defend itself. Otherwise, you get crap like this. Just ask the guy behind the Kingdom of Minerva who spent millions of his own money building up an atoll in to an island only to have it annexed by Tonga as soon as the people who built Minerva left the island. A mutual friend (Totally Hip CEO) gave him a 5 horse outboard and we launched it out into the Caribbean. The 5 horse outboard wasn't powerful enough to move the floating island against the wind, and it had to be towed back to it's mooring by a boat. Spiral Island was destroyed by a hurricane in 2005, and he built a new one which still exists today. New Island: |

Just ask the guy behind the Kingdom of Minerva who spent millions of his own money building up an atoll in to an island only to have it annexed by Tonga as soon as the people who built Minerva left the island. Another friend of mine bought a little island off the east coast of Panama, and was planning on developing it for tourism. His wife ended up with some type of tropical sickness so he gave up on the idea, and sold the island. The problem with islands like that is they have to be constantly occupied, otherwise they will be stripped clean of anything valuable. My friend Gary was warned about that when he bought the island. A cousin of mine left his large sail boat abandoned off the coast of Bajaj after his motor crapped out. The U.S. Coast Guard warned him not to leave his sailing vessel abandoned, but he did not listen to them. The Mexicans stripped his yacht clean. |

Pictures from this article's press conference too. Crazy. The seasteading couple aimed to launch a new sovereign state by creating new land far enough offshore that it would be recognized as independent by the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea. Elwartowski claims that his seastead, which he named “XLII,” is located outside of Thai maritime territory, beyond the 12-mile sovereign territory claim.. [link to news.bitcoin.com (secure)] |
