see this all the time. and it pisses me off. anyone can play music, keep a beat and put there fingers in the right places. why celebrate mere technical ability? Tool wrote it did they not? Aren't they the ones that should be applauded. Its good these kids can play and music like this is good to practice but really if they don't write they will just end up playing other peoples stuff for ever.

A lot of bands write music that other bands make famous by playing it better. We know Tool wrote it but that doesnt mean that they play/sing it the best.

You can barely hear Manard in his version. Without the words, you wouldnt even know what he was saying.

this is one of the songs that stood out on this album and I've been listening to it since its release. I never thought to myself, "damn, you can barely hear Maynard's vocal in Forty Six & 2."

These kids are good, there's no doubt, but they don't play Tool better than Tool.

Well, he was arguing with someone about it. Anyway, what if a new listener was listening? Which version is more easily understood? Like he said, without the written words, you wouldnt know what the original words were.

The vocals being mixed that way was a creative decision. It takes nothing away from Tool's performance. Just because the vocals are pushed up front in the cover version doesn't make it better. I'm not the biggest Tool fan, but I agree with those defending the original here. I'm impressed with the kids because they've done the song justice and their performance is spot on, but do you know how hard it is to write a song like this? They aren't better than Tool playing Tool. Still, cool video, thanks for for posting it.
