If I had to guess the upper atmosphere has changed. Something has caused the angles of reflection and refraction to change. Sunlight is bouncing off the atmosphere and going into space rather than to the ground later in spring, and it's not doing it in the fall until much later. It suggests the upper atmosphere is changing in composition or in some unknown way over the course of the year. I don't know how or why, but that seems to me to be the cause. |

Keep in mind that the air temperature a mile up is very cold. More upper clouds with frozen water vapor. Our summers are also getting milder, with fewer days over 100 degrees. I personally like the change, because everything is getting milder, except the fires in the late summer, which I believe are deliberately set. The fire condition weather used to be far worse back in the 1980s, yet there were never any major fires that chocked out the sun one the west coast. The smoke in the late summer has become a fixture now. |

I don't think they're longer, they're just starting later. I've noticed that for at least the past 3 years. It seems winter doesn't start until January and we're still feeling winter in April. Come May, we skip over spring and end up right in summer. It's definitely been a weird pattern the last few years. Quoting: Anonymous Girl That’s how it is here in Spokane, WA |

It’s not just a change in our winters.... The weathermen tell us along with our “normal” storms to expect wind gusts up to 60 to 70 mph wind gusts!! What??! That is hurricane wind and the never bat an eye as if this is normal! It’s not normal and has never happened until this last 7 years or so. All I have to say is .. it’s going to get much worse!! We are living the book of Revelations! |

The entire April showers brings May flowers always seemed off a month to me. My birthday is in April and as a kid, it wasn't very often the weather was nice enough for an outdoor party. I paid attention to the weather in April alot. Our frost free date hasn't changed at all. Its' still like May 15th. I live in Michigan. |

It's snowed April 12th 1987 down sowth. You are correct things are changing lately. It's so obvious and most people are so glued the the ninernet and SM they wouldn't know if it was daylight for 80 hour's. |

Hey OP, If so, then you're clueless. They used to start in late Oct, early Nov in NJ... with frozen ponds and rivers and many skaters, iceboats and more and end around early to mid April, with massive ice/snow storms hitting mid March and Early April being common. |

Leaves start falling late august. Leaves finish falling late september. We had first snow October 3rd. By October 20th the snow was permanent and didn't melt. November 5th lakes froze. November 20th lakes frozen solid enough to walk on. White Christmas, yes. Always. December January February March completely frozen solid. April frozen at nigh daytime above freezing. May leaves reappear. It's pretty much always like this. |

Not were I live. But then, the weather is very inconsistent here. In my lifetime I’ve seen a lot of change. It’s nothing new. Blizzard for Halloween, snow on Easter, 70 degrees over Christmas. Nope OP.. I am 71 and we get periods of fluctuation all the time. A few years ago we got winter here in November and the crocus came up in February for example. However.. at least on the eastern slope of Colorado they have gotten milder over the last 25 years or so. |

It's true and there are a combination of factors. One is the gulf stream effecting northern climes. Another is the sun in solar minimum. Also the Jet streams have altered courses. Probably others, maybe less prominent. |
