Krokodil is from peoples shitty attempts at synthesizing Desomorphine from OTC opioid pain pills. It rotts peoples limbs as there is by products left over such as
iodine, phosphorus etc and then people IV it with no regard for their own health.
Desomorphine as a pure drug is no more harmful than any other opiate.
This is the result of poverty, stupidity and no access to safer opioid drugs like heroin. Then again they could just get high from the over the counter opioid the drug starts off as but you cant fix stupid i guess.

People arent getting off it because opiates are addictive as fuck and once you are addicted you stop making logical choices, its all about that next hit even if your arm is starting to rot away. Also another factor would be i imagine Russia does not have opiate support programs like methadone or suboxone to help people get off the stuff. There are numerous things that could be done to fix the issue but i doubt anybody cares that much about the fate of some junkies. There is a reason this is only an issue in Russia and not the west or more progressive countries....
