I have to say what is happening in San Francisco is a travesty.

It is literally one of the most richest cities in the world but they cannot even manage to keep the BART clean or not smelling of unwashed bodies from homeless people.

I mean look at London for example. I'm not saying London is great or anything like that, but I did admire their subway system.

It was efficient. Taking the Subway there didn't smell. It was clean and without a car in London, you could efficiently get around everywhere.

We should have as system like that for San Francisco and Los Angeles and every major city. It would seriously reduce traffic for one thing and that in itself would be a HUGE accomplishment.

Also why the hell can't the government of california keep the BART clean? It really is a disgrace to the city for people visiting here from all over to see such filth in one of the most used transportation system in the heart of the city of San Francisco?

This the problem with politicians in California. They don't actually focus on day to day problems but rather would focus on their image and how to line their own pockets with funds that should go to improving the welfare of the city and the state.

The laws governing elections at the federal level were wise and many knew a pure democracy was not the best option, rural states did not want to be ruled by populous states. A representative Republic was the best choice and an electoral college represented the country as a whole...not just NY to Boston.

Today if a popular vote was established, east and west coast states would elect the president. Federal funds and laws would cater to those states that elect the president. Middle American would not be a player in any laws or funding...they would have no voice.

All of your ideas are good ones but unfortunately they won't work in the USA. Because for all the yamoring the Left puts out about socialism and helping others, NO ONE in this country really believes that. Maybe church people, but not ordinary Americans. Most Americans are only interested in what they can get for themselves and have no sense of common interest or welfare, so if something isn't privately, individually owned, like a subway system is communally owned, no one takes care of it. There is very little sense of community in the USA and it gets worse all the time. Most Americans are heart treat the USA like a whore rather than a mother, and the more immigrants - legal or illegal - we let it, the worse it gets. PEOPLE ARE HERE TO MAKE MONEY.

Dissolving the electoral college would give city populations total control over policy and disenfranchise rural populations. What the fuck are you people thinking?

When you vote for POTUS you are actually voting for a state party elector from your state's electoral college. THose electors then cast their vote according to the will of their constituency. It is another of the many checks and balances put in place by the Founders to prevent such state overreach. Some states have passed law that order their electors to vote according to state wishes but the constitutionality of such laws has never been challenged in court. Electors are free to cast their electoral college votes for whomever they wish. I find it unlikely that a bunch of Republican-chosen electors in a state won by a Republican would all vote for a Dem against the wishes of their state's own citizens.
