Post Apocalyptic Fiction Recommendations
I’m tired of all the books that portray protagonists as ex-Special Forces who miraculously meet up with their old squaddies who happen to have stolen an arsenal and they all hole up in some compound replete with bunkers and sniper nests.

I’m also tired of the protagonists being such God-fearing goody two shoes who are in saccharine sweet love with their wives, where the Apocalypse is like a sort of bad place where they luckily overcome a few problems and kill a few really stupid bad guys and generally have a big fun camping adventure.

I love The Mountain Man series, and I’m having trouble finding more books like this or stories that are more realistic and gritty. Yes I’ve read The Road.

Suggestions please, and thank you

Re: Post Apocalyptic Fiction Recommendations
You will enjoy my Coastal Event Memories Series.
[link to www.amazon.com (secure)]
This is the first of five Novellas in a near term Science Fiction Post-Apocalyptic series. Each book in the series tells the stories of a group of survivors that live through a Global Extermination Event. The characters in this book are clustered around the shores of a great Inland Sea above what used to be called the San Joaquin Valley in California. These stories were triggered by current events shortly after I published my first book, BB-39. I had planned to complete another long-delayed novel, but these stories could not be set aside. Finally, I gave up and started writing these stories about people living in a world with vast areas covered by many feet of volcanic ash, and where the sea levels have risen by over 300 feet.
