Re: Bad teeth decay
Three months now of chewing trident xylitol and gum line has grown back and most cavities are filling in with minerals.only back teeth with no opposing pressure teeth are currently risky in my mouth.
I did about an hour on web research and toms mouthwash, toms tooth paste both with xylitol.plus the trident seems to report some success.

Its obvious sodas should be taxed and public dental funding should be prioritized.
Mountain dew mouth is a real disease at this point and needs funding.

Unfortunately i don't see them doing that. That would be taking money away from the big corporations.

But I will say that I would do anything to be able to replace mine and my wives teeth. And to be honest, I would help anyone else who was in the same boat we are.

Dental assistant here.

Sorry you are having trouble. Genetics play the biggest role in how teeth turn out, then medications, then carbonic acid (carbonation is the real culprit in soda, not sugar, though that doesn't help either), then hygiene. Some people could scrub their teeth 3x a day and still have them fall out. Stop beating yourself up and take action. Just a visit doesn't mean obligation.

Some good suggestions here for pain relief but I promise you, nothing will make rot disappear, likewise nothing will make dentin grow back (enamel is debatable). Clove oil works best for infection and dry socket (if any fall out or get pulled). BUT, For the love of god, never ever PACK a tooth or hole with ANYTHING. This is your fastest ticket to serious infection or dangerous body absorption. I have seen patients do this and they are much worse for wear than if they just sucked it up and came in from the start.

Root canals do not hurt, I've had one done on myself, but if there is not enough tooth structure to cement a crown to it will not work. Yes, the tooth's nutrition is removed ergo the tooth becomes a dead shell. A crown protects this from the elements, but infection can sometimes still show up underneath the roots. The goal is that we hang onto the tooth as long as possible. It is up to you to decide if it is worth it.

Be a guinea pig at a college at your own risk. If things get messy, sometimes the professor will fix it. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes it takes multiple visits, sometimes it's just better to avoid months of worse pain.

Many offices offer payment plans. Take them. I have seen thousands of people come through, get impressions, full mouth extractions, immediate dentures and permanents, then after everything is said and done cry and say they wish they would have done it sooner. It changes lives and confidence.

My biggest suggestion? You and your wife are very young. Whatever denture package you get, make sure you get a NEW SET OF DENTURES AFTER SIX MONTHS OF HEALING, aka, your permanent set is made fresh instead of just a hard liner inserted into your immediates. Immediate dentures are a guessing game and with existing teeth in the way there is no way to try them in. They are made big to accommodate swelling while you heal and you'll shrink quite a bit by the end. Of course it costs more to have a 2nd set made but for quality of life, it is WORTH IT. Don't be stuck with horse teeth because you couldnt opt for the 2nd set, and make sure whatever office you are dealing with SPELLS THIS OUT FOR YOU.

Talk to your dental assistants. They are your liaison between you and the Dr., you will probably see us more than the Dr. themselves, and sometimes can explain office stuff in layman's terms. We are patient care all the way. We want you to understand and be comfortable with whatever you are doing.

This stuff is not easy, but it is worth it.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

Sir, let me tell you about a woman I know who had told me her dentist wanted to pull all her teeth and put in full dentures. She couldn't afford it, her teeth were painful and terrible looking. I told her about using garlic clove on abscesses, oregano oil on painful areas and coconut oil as a mouth swish and to hold it in her mouth for 10 minutes twice a day.

After I told her about coconut oil both she and her husband began doing that religiously. Stopped the progression. She did still lose a couple teeth that were already so far gone and had been very loose for a long time. But she not only kept all her other teeth, but they became the most white teeth you ever saw. Even her lower teeth, over years, became white, even where they had been etched a brown stain from her years of smoking.

The transformation was incredible. It has been probably 5 years now since I told her of coconut oil and she is doing great.

I hope you can have the same success and you will... if you are as consistent as she is.

Also.. I have a recurrent bone infection I have to really watch out for. I notice that if I eat sugary food, it flares up. So I eat a healthy, home cooked meal 95% of the time and have avoided a terrible surgery.

Sugar is the devil.

Tennessee foe the most part is terrible when it comes to government assistance. Even though I knew a guy who got full blown disability when he was in his 20s for being overweight. They paid for his bypass surgery a few years ago and now he's back up to 300 lbs. To beat it all he moans and groans that he has to pay 3 bucks for his damn medicine. Yet I can't go to the doctor or get anything done to my teeth.

I have no idea where to start this, but I've been a frequent visitor to this site for about 10 years. I have no one to turn to, but I just have to get this out somewhere to get things started. To start though, I'm almost 30 and my wife is 27. We both have terrible teeth and it feels like we have no options. I've been at the same dead end job now for 13 years and I can't find another because of these horrendous teeth.

I don't make shit for money and have no insurance. I have to sacrifice a lot of foods in fear of breaking anymore teeth. Right now I've been oil pulling daily to hopefully not get any infections.

My wife is in the same boat as me but we want to do something with our lives but can't because of the shitty choices we have made concerning our teeth. But I want that to change so bad. We just don't want to worry about dying from bad teeth. It's such a terrible feeling having to worry about being embarrassed and constantly worrying about these.

Does anyone have any suggestions? And trust me if we could travel back in time and fix the mistakes we would.

We exist :)

To explain more in depth: when you get teeth removed, you are never "without" teeth. Whether they be partial or full dentures, one or both arches, the ones that go in immediately are called (guess) immediates. You wear these for six months and periodically get "soft liners" put in so they feel more snug every couple weeks, but immediates are never ever perfect. This set CAN become your permanent once you are done fully healing, but the hard liner we put in only fills in the gaps on the inside, leaving the outside unaffected and still bulky, and still with any visual flaws you dislike. 2nd set is thinner, more comfortable, and you have the ability to try them in and check fit and appearance for accuracy before they are made. Way better experience. Liken it to buying a beater or a Cadillac for use the rest of your life. You know who we suggest immediates-turned-permanents to? People who don't have ANY teeth, or really elderly people (who we would be extorting by selling them a Cadillac to drive for a year.)

I understand completely about your job. Confidence and function are the two biggest reasons people come to see us. It might be a rough road but it is a life changing choice. Nothing is better than your own teeth, anyone with dentures can attest that a prothestic in your mouth is something hard to get used to, but you adjust. The human body is amazing at adaptation.

Mind you, I am talking a lot about dentures because a) they might be your only option or b) they actually might not be. But if they aren't your only option, the rest of your dental plan will probably include many crowns and be twice or thrice as expensive as dentures. Keep in mind dentistry is still a business, and restorative work pays well, but any good Dr worth his weight will not do work they know will fail, and will go straight to full mouth exo if they think things are that bad. Likewise, Drs don't like to rip out viable teeth, so maybe you really do only have a couple that need pulled. Make sure you ask all "what if" scenarios, and let the Dr. know what you feel is right in your heart. Every patient is different, and the front office staff should answer all your "pricing for this plan of action vs. that plan of action" questions. If anyone gives off a bad vibe, leave. Seriously. Shitty people in the industry won't do you any favors.

OP ! i definitely FEEL YOUR PAIN as i been there, seen it and finally DONE IT as in extractions quadrant by quadrant then my dentures and became PAIN FREE for the 1st time IN YEARS...and LOL that's a long time ago i finally took care--I'M free.

That requires alot of money in which we don't have.

Affordable Dentures. They work out a payment plan. Super easy and cheap.

how good are their dentures though and how many times can a person go back for "adjustments" for free ?
dentures can be on par w/a miracle or one big pain in the arse due to not "fitting" right and the need for a few trips back.

Re: Bad teeth decay

Thank you for all that. I'm glad to know there are caring individuals out there. We didn't know about the 2nd set ordeal. It makes sense though. We would probably just get them all pulled and be done with it.

Working in retail doesn't help much with the stress. Get told everyday to smile and I just can't pull myself up to do it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76759123

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77286318

Thank you again. I probably only have a few that would be worth saving if any. I've only had bad vibes around here with the dentists and I don't know I'd that contributed to me making shitty decisions but I want to succeed and do my best. And to start that I have to do something about these teeth.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76759123

It's very possible, all it takes is one bad dental visit for people to avoid us for life. Sure, I've had some dentists ask ME how to do things (I didnt go to school for eight years, asshole!) and I've actually gotten a Dr. fired...doctors are still humans with sometimes flawed knowledge...but I've also had the incredible privilege of working with the kindest, most brilliant and truly compassionate doctors who I would genuinely trust my life with. Please keep trying, we are out there. Cross deserts if you need to!

This is true. A millimeter can feel like a house in your mouth. Most dentures require 2-3 adjustments because denture making is an art more than a science. Unlimited adjustments within a time frame should be no charge. Any dentist or denture lab worth it's salt will fix it til it feels right.

Re: Bad teeth decay
Make a teeth saving toothpowder out of bentonite clay mixed with powdered egg shells or powdered calmag tablets, white oak powder, horsetail powder and theobromine.

Amazon - this is enough to last you a year or more.

Bentonite clay = $11.00
Egg shells/calmag tablets = $3/$6
White oak bark powder = $8.00
Horsetail powder or tincture = $8.00
Theobromine = $21.00

------------------------ total = $51.00 - $54.00

Boost it with:

goldenseal
ajwain
activated charcoal
tulsi/holy basil
oregano
peppermint oil

Re: Bad teeth decay
I did mine over several years.

Mainly because I can't sit in the chair for a week straight without going insane, but money was also somewhat of a factor.

Go to the dentist. Find out what needs fixed and just start chipping away at it. An appointment for a couple fillings. Another one a month or two later for another one. Etc, etc. In the end, you get there without paying ten grand up front.

I've had previous fillings come out. The other teeth are beyond repair. They just need to be taken out and replaced.

Use a week of vacation and get everything pulled and dentures made at one of those economy dentures clinics. In about a week you should be getting used to talking and eating with a mouthful of plastic.
