First thing is that you both obviously need some dental care so ask around there should be some low cost clinic that will help you. If you don't fix that then it will just go from bad to worse.

Back in 2001 I was in your situation with my teeth. What you both need is a good quality Oral B toothbrush and Sensidyne type toothpaste After my teeth got fixed I followed my dentists recommendations and after about 3 weeks I'd say my teeth where about 80% better, and have been much better this last 15 years or so. Brush twice a day...every day.
