JADR+ (OP) User ID: 77547809 Australia 04/16/2019 09:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | why does anything matter? Life is a bitch then you die! But more seriously: It matters because the majority of people in the US who were driving in the 50's and 60's & 70's do not recall this fact. Yet most people still think the yield sign is yellow, yet many of them were not even born in 1972 when all Yellow yield signs were replaced with red & white yield signs. You have exactly the same phenomenon a few years a part. With the stop sign - it used to be yellow, now is red, no one remember the first version. With the yield sign - it used to be yellow, now is red, most people remember the first version and are not even aware of the 1972 swap to red & white. Why would that be? It certainly puts into doubt the validity of eye witness testimony. Last Edited by JADR+ on 04/16/2019 09:48 AM I'm a J & proud zio. JADR+ (OP) User ID: 77547809 Australia 04/16/2019 09:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.trafficsign.us] "Yes - in fact, yellow was the standard color for STOP signs for nearly 30 years. The first STOP sign appeared in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. There were a variety of colors used for STOP signs until the late 1920s, when the background color was standardized on yellow for maximum day and night visibility. Remember that this was a number of years before the invention of glass-bead retroreflectorization for sign faces, so a red sign looked very dark at night. By 1954, signmakers were able to use durable fade-resistant red coatings for sign faces, so the background color of the STOP sign was changed to the red color you see today. This change also served to distinguish the regulatory STOP sign from yellow warning signs, and also made the color consistent with that of red traffic signal indications, which for decades had used red to signal "stop"." How long will men of hues be able to maintain their colors? Which points to another mystery concerning the "Yellow" yield sign that everyone claims they still see around. Yellow yields signs in the US would have to be 48 year old since they stop making them in 1972. 48 years of sun, hail, rain, wind will bleach any paint.
