This seems to be a very good question, apparently.
But the truth is that NO ONE on earth REALLY care about Jesus Christ since NO ONE has really met him, physically, in the modern era, to hear and understand what he has to say...TODAY!
Note that the Book of Revelation, written just less a century after the four Gospels, revealed to John what these Gospels didn't tell! Imagine what Christ would have to say...after so many changes and centuries, especially since science has come.
MANY people have some ideas and interpretations about who Jesus Christ really is and what is HIS truth. But just THAT...ideas and interpretations.
What makes France, and some European and Mediterranean countries, different from many others all over the world, regarding Jesus Christ, is its early history. France is few days from Palestine by ancient boats. So, the 'vibration' of Christ is FAR MORE present in France than the USA, for example.
And history made it a high place of faith, especially through kings and monks. Remember that French cathedrals were built for tens of years, and even centuries. It means that most of the architects and workers of the Middle-Age knew they wouldn't see them finished. THAT'S faith in Christ. This is this emotion that moved people all over the world, especially the French.
So, Notre Dame belongs to this early Christian history and became a great symbol of the European, and of course, French culture.
France and England have evangelised USA and Canada (people coming from Europe), not the other way around. Spain did it for South America. But, nodaways, the 'teenagers' always think to be smarter than their parents. A sign of the end, surely...
After many wars of religion, Europe (and France) has understood lessons that the fundamentalists have not understood yet. Dogmas and 'truth' are over since they are but interpretations.
Now, the renewal (not revival) of the faith in Christ will come soon...but not the way 99% of people think it will come. The fire of Notre Dame is nothing but a great sign of this change of paradigm...coming from France.
