With Southern California gas prices topping $4 for the first time since 2015, many have been quick to place the blame on refinery problems and a switch to the summer blend of gas.

Both clearly figure into the mix. But the Golden State’s broad array of gas taxes and a “mystery surcharge” no one can quite explain placed California motorists at a disadvantage to begin with.

Here’s a breakdown of what we pay in gasoline taxes, according to the California Energy Commission. All numbers except the final category have been rounded to the nearest penny and were effective as of March. The combined Cap & Trade and low Carbon Fuels Standard costs were effective April 12.

High prices = less people driving = less traffic

Well, libs will get their clean air when no one can afford to drive anymore, or buy anything because those diesel taxes on all things shipped will be passed on to the customer.

Once the tech boom runs it's course and California stops raking in the TENS of BILLION$$$ per year it gets in Capital Gains taxes of the new Billionaires selling their stock ... well the budget gap in California will be a nearly bottomless pit.

First, CA voters voted for the new gas tax. And if you really believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. However, that's what the official vote count says. Voted in through voter fraud IMHO. Who the hell votes FOR a tax.

Second, we've seen this in the past. They put the money in a special fund account for road repairs, etc. But a couple of years later, the state politicians eventually vote to move the money to the General Fund because they "need" it elsewhere.

Actually, Californians voted for that tax TWICE! The second time around was when they voted to not repeal it in the past midterm. The conclusion? Californians are just that fucking stupid.
