Japanese Emperor Akihito abdicated the throne

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the abdication of Emperor Akihito from the throne and, as a representative of the people, gave him thanks from his subjects.
Akihito, in turn, addressed the nation with a farewell speech.
The ceremony of abdication takes place in the Seiden Matsu-no-ma hall of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Broadcast are all TV channels of the country.
According to the ancient chronicles, belonging to the first emperor Jimmu, jasper, as well as the Imperial Seal and the State Seal of Japan were brought into the room.
There are about 300 people in the hall, among them are the monarch himself and his wife, the heir to the throne Naruhito and his wife, other members of the imperial family, as well as representatives of the three branches of government.
Akihito held office for almost 30 years.

In June 2017, the Parliament adopted a special law that allows for the lifetime transmission of the Chrysanthemum throne.
At the same time, it was decided that the day of retirement will be April 30, and the day of accession to the throne and the enthronement of the heir - May 1, 2019.
On April 1, the name of the new era of government, Rave, became known, which can be translated as "beauty and harmony."
