If you speak "GOD" with the long "O" sound, you get GOAD
According to Alan Watt, all English words were originally pronounced with long vowel sounds. If you pronounce God with a long "O" sound, you get "goad", which means:

1 a : something that pains as if by pricking : THORN b : something that urges or stimulates into action : SPUR
2 : a pointed rod used to urge on an animal

If you think about it, that's what the God of the Bible is about, he goads you constantly.

And concerning the second definition a pointed rod used to urge on an animal, this verse comes to mind:

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

The rod and the staff are used to goad animals and that's exactly what God is described as doing in this verse... What do you think?

That has nothing to do with the fact that long "O" sound is pronounced "OH." How the word God is pronounced where you live is irrelevant to the point in the OP, consult a dictionary.

Sure is something to think about.

the other day it dawned on me that maybe the rod and the staff were the staff of life represented in the caduceus, which represents the spinal cord.

dunno
