In "olden times" anyone who was "higher" in social standing was called "lord". "Lord" is a generic term.

Jesus is called Lord as He was SENT by the Father - not only the Father's DIRECT "representative", but His ONLY BEGOTTEN Son. The Father GAVE Jesus "power" (authority) over heaven and earth - and all of us.
