Smaller payments over a longer period of time only worsens the situation, making life time debt slaves out of people. They did the same thing with housing. The solution should be to get rid of the rentier class economy and prices would come down. You do not have 100,000 to pay for that education you do not get it. You do not have 30,000 for that new car, you do not get it. Get rid of usury and theft. When my parents got their 2008 Ford Fusion back in 2010 they got royally screwed for being poor people. The lending company gave them the money for the car of course, but at slightly more a month than the actual car payments were. So they were paying a crap load of money a month and what's worse is their credit scores never really improved whatsoever. It took them till two or three years ago before they managed to fully pay off their car, and even then getting the title for their car was difficult to the point they almost had to hire a lawyer.
