Australia - third world country?
This "Sherwud" and "Chellmer" looks like a third world dump but is touted by the video author as being "upper class" and "old money" "upmarket" and "rich"

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

LANGUAGE WARNING FOR VIDEO

I can see that the NZers like going to Australia and kiss the ground because it is slightly better than their country which is really third world and I can see that the people from the Brown Crescent from India all the way across the jungle asia up to Chiner like to go to Australia so I would guess that its a setup up for them but still third world.

The streets and houses and stores all look pretty rough like something you would find in Africa.

It might be but thats not the topic so please feel free to start your own thread if you want to discuss this topic.

This topic is about Australia and in particular the video and the "elite" "old money" "rich" suburbs depicted.

Its not third world by any means. Clean water and sound infrastructure .too much taxation and greed are causing grief for lower income people , plenty of rage and social discontent. But sanitation, social security and medical benefits are good. Third world? I cant imagine...

Yes

You can get all these things in the third world

You can get them without the fat people and run down ghetto style houses and structures I saw in OPs video as well.

Even Indians find Straya third world?

Search on the R3ddit "melbourne_what_a_dump/"

Lots of New Zealanders do though I read it on the other thread

Re: Australia - third world country?
During the Cold War, the term Third World referred to the developing countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, the nations not aligned with either the First World or the Second World. This usage has become relatively rare due to the ending of the Cold War.

Australia is a developed country, with a modern community and high GDP.

Begone troll.

Close, but not entirely true. When the categories of first world and second world countries were introduced to the vernacular, it was to distinguish between the US and their allies, and the countries that were ideologically opposed to democracy (crony capitalism disguised as a free market). Third world countries were countries that were indifferent to both lines of ideology. Third world countries are now used to describe poor countries with a low standard of living, but originally they were countries that were neutral, regardless of their quality of life.

GDP? You mean a dollar thats as weak as the peso and beers that cost 10 dollars and crappy houses like on OPs video that people paid half a million for? IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW "modern" or how big the "GDP". THE VIDEO IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS and the comment son the OP video say it all, You can google Third World Immigration Australia and Sunnybank and see who is want to go there and its the browns from the brown countries I am sorry but true.

It looks like a dumphole and OP is right and the video commentator is crazy if he thinks those dumphole houses and suburbs are "riches". Please tell us your street and suburb and show us these "riches" and moderns you speak of.

Re: Australia - third world country?
According to a Chinese academic friend, Australians are largely regarded as fat and lazy, and our universities are already bottom choice, with most students preferring China/ Singapore/ Us and Uk.
Kids come to Australia if they can’t get in somewhere better.
The social control of those students is pretty intense.
Despite that, l have it from a Monash staff member that Monash wants to see( and is recruiting) 5-10,000 extra students in every year over the next 5 years( so 25,000 extra in five years- currently around forty thousand;was thirty thousand about 6-7 years ago).
More than one faculty have been told they are failing too many students- the administration requests that they lower their standards so these students get what they are purchasing is the implication.
It’s a disaster really, and undermines the efforts of other really bright and hardworking students.

It would only be a matter of time if Universities were giving out easy passes that it would be found out. It would affect their ranking and ability to attract enrollment from full fee paying International students. Not saying that it doesn't happen here or there but would probably be quite rare. Most of international students that come here are wanting to enter into programs like Law, Medicine, Engineering & Sciences etc.. Those departments care very much about their reputation and their relative ranking among other universities around the world. Better reputation, better quality courses, can ask higher fees. U.S. is normally first choice destination and then places like UK, Canadia, Aus and NZ picking up the rest. Then there's hierarchy of cities too. Basically it all works on one fundamental law of the universe. Shit rolls down hill. In Australia we're not at the top but far from bottom.
