I was life flighted 99 miles to Houston and my bill was $36258.

Operating a Helicopter is one of the most expensive aerospace vehicles this side of the Space Shuttle when it was in service.

In this case time was critical for saving that child from a serious open skull fracture, not something a country doctor can do.

His life was saved because of the expeditious transportation to a level 1 trauma center that was not nearby.

Just as the lives of our serviceman on the battlefield are saved by rapid transport to health care so was the case here.

I bet at the time it was all hands on deck in agreement to get there as fast as possible and I m glad the infrastructure was there and they did.

So many lives are saved because of Medical Life Flights in this country and it costs a lot of money as health care does. Hopefully no one reading this will ever need the service and thus endure the expense but if we do I hope the service is still there, regardless of cost.

It is unreasonable to make one person pay for another person's helicopter ride. But, doesn't that sound like Obama care?

The part that some might have missed also is one reason for the high cost of this service and health care in America is because so many people use it without ability to pay.

I understand that and we do not refuse treatment in life threatening situations however with more and more asylum seekers arriving daily expect even greater increases in health care costs going forward.

Many hospitals/facilities along our southern border have closed due to huge financial loss due to this issue and I expect more to close deeper in America as individuals and insurance companies will eventually be unable to survive after paying these large increases over time.

Life Flight insurance only costs about $100 a year for a family and is essential in rural and remote areas. It’s worth it. With the insurance there is no charge, without the insurance it is very expensive.

I agree, if it really cost $40,000. But the $fiat dollar is supposed to represent labor, our labor. Why should we have to work 8 times harder to buy the same food from the same grocery store?

The only answer to this is for the vast majority of us to cancel your Healthcare Insurance. Most expect you to pay $5000 - 10,000 of your labor dollars toward these inflated prices before they will pay 1c anyway.

Even if your plan doesn't cover it, your insurance company has discounts they negotiate with, or simply demand from the service providers...no one pays that stupid big bill

Can you explain why the flight costs so much less with insurance?

At 100 a month it would take 20 months to build up only 2000, which is what someone claimed is the cheapest they charge.

So how is it someone who gets insurance and only pays in 6 months gets a free ride?

Also what about the people that pay insurance for 10 years and never use it?

Or do you not see what a scam this all is?

Just the cost of fuel and hourly charge to the pilot for his service.
