BREAKING: Ohio school to remain closed after enriched uranium detected

OK...found a report that tells what caused this;

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) 2017 Annual Site Environmental Report, identified traces of a radioactive element, Neptunium, in an air monitor directly across the street from Zahn’s Corner Middle School.

Enriched uranium was found inside a classroom of the middle school and the attic of a local residence, according to independently published data generated in conjunction with researchers at the Northern Arizona University.

Trace amounts of Neptunium are detectable in the environment almost everywhere, however NAU Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and author of the study Dr. Michael Ketterer explained, “What we’re saying here is that the Neptunium and Plutonium in the environment is not accountable from global fallout.”

Could a meteor cause this? Being in the attic made me consider.

I'm assuming these aren't elements that are just sitting at surface level in random places.

The Department of Energy had been continuing cleanup work on the 3,000-acre Gaseous Diffusion Plant campus that closed in 2001. They have also considered making the area a nuclear disposal site, something the Pike County Health Department has warned against since the discovery of the uranium.

There is a Uranium Enrichment Plant there in Pike County. Been there for years since I was a kid. I grew up close to it. I think that now they are not enriching anything but are cleaning up the plant and have been doing so for the past 25 years or so.

Was there a depleted uranium missile strike in the vincinity?

It apparently was found in one of those EPA air-monitoring stations that filter large amounts of air, and then measure the radiation in the filter itself. Not too sure it was accually found inside the school, but rather in the air monitor next to the school.

The Portsmouth Gasseous Diffusion plant was almost certainly the source.

Wonder if it only showed up over one filter on one day, or if multiple days? If just on one day, it may be much ado about nothing--but sounds like it is more than that.

None of the EPA air monitors in Columbus, Cincinnati, nor Charleston showed any worrisome spikes this week.

Unlikely, since it was found in the air monitor. Very difficult and expensive to get even tiny amount of U235. That's what all those fancy huge centrifuges are doing when working--trying to separate 235 from 238.

Looks like they disposed of it at school.

Well for those making light of this let me give you a heads up. This is directly down the street from my house. My son works there. A lot of my friends work there. The A plant is basically it's own village. It is huge. They are in the middle of tearing it down. The fed has told us they are turning it into a radioactive waste dump... but we shouldnt worry. It wont leak into any underground water. So we are safe. And the fed wouldnt lie right? I am going to include an article from the Columbus dispatch. Gives a little more detail. But we have had 7 to 8 kids die of cancer over the past 6 years. One of them was recently a close family friends 10 year old grandson. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He lived not far from here. Ryan Reynolds made him a video that went viral last year. Right before he passed.

We are in the process of looking to move and my son has sent his resume out. But the damage done to some of these families is too late.

Also keep in mind that there is nothing we can do to stop this waste dump. It wasnt voted on. It was assigned by the fed. From what I understand the sheriff and the state would have to get involved. You may remember the sheriff's name. It is Charlie reader. You probably heard it on the news because this is also exactly down the road from the rhoden family that was massacred here a few years ago. So I believe if sheriff reader can do anything, he will. This is very poor county. A lot of these people dont have the means to pick up and move like we do. They are good people and I am afraid this trend will continue.

You're right. It was not planted. It was probably from destruction of the enrichment plant. There are air monitors all around the county and it was picked up on the one at this middle school.
