Does it scare you that this phenomenon is more likely ethereal than physical? The truth happens to align with what all ancient cultures and religions have described. It doesn't matter what you call them, elves, fairies, demons, archons, gods, etc they don't behave like you would expect a technologically advanced extraterrestrial species. There might very well be exotic physical craft, but these entities aren't the ones driving them.
