Getting thru a "poleshift" or like event is only a first step. What happens after that will depend on your preparation. You will be thrown back to a self sufficient, pioneer type lifestyle. Not quite hunter gatherer but "homesteading". Every tool and piece of knowledge you can gather will add to your level of comfort.
It doesn't have to cost you a fortune. I recenty bought an older canvas tent from a thrift store... for $10, poles and pegs. With a silver tarp over it as a "fly" it will be a solid and dry emergency shelter/home. Storage of such preps may be an issue for some, but if you start looking soon, costs can be kept low. And if nothing happens.. you can give it back to the charity store.
